Yes, how much difference did it make?
|
Sorry everyone...kind of dropped the ball on this. I've been traveling a lot for work so I haven't had a whole lot of time to devote to the project. I work here and there when I can...but not much has been done. I tried taking pictures of the headliner...but they all come out awful and don't do it justice. The new felt on the sunroof looks nice...but I can tell it wasn't done quite right. It seems like it's sticking up too far...and one corner has a slight gap. But it doesn't rain much out here...so it's low on the priority list to revisit.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1278095815.jpg Anyway, I fitted in and glue down some luxury liner pro for the floor. If nothing else, it makes it look a whole lot nicer looking. I was also able to lay the first piece of carpet for the middle console...and installed all those components. I didn't glue that piece of carpet down though...but it doesn't really need it. Some of the carpet pieces will need to be cut to fit...like the middle piece didn't have a slot for the shifter and the gap it had for the seat rails was too small...so I had to lengthen them. As you can see, I installed the driver's seat so I am driving it occasionally...and I'm kind of disappointed in the quietness of it. Although, I'm not quite finished...so it motivates me to lay more stuff. I think the rumbling sound is less, but there are other frequencies that I'm noticing. However, I will say it doesn't sounds any louder...if anything at the moment...it sounds like I just before. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1278096277.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1278096299.jpg |
yep, the same cuts were required on my carpet as well (seat belt, shifter). you won't see any benefit from the llp until you are done. it needs 100% coverage and all the seams sealed to do it's job. anywhere that isn't covered will let in the airborne noise.

Alright...had the day off so was able to devote more time to the project. I finished up with all the sound dampener I'm going to glue directly to the car. So next time I'm able to work on the car, I'll be gluing down carpet. And I actually have quite a bit more LLP left. If I put all the scraps together, I'd probably be a full sheet, perhaps a little more.
I'm noticing that the Heatwave is quite a bit thinner where the LLP and HW come together. Was thinking perhaps I should have put a layer of LLP where the seat bottoms go and over the hump...but I already experimented with gluing down carpet there...so it'll have to stay how it is. I didn't put any over the wheel wells because I don't think I'll have enough clearance for the panels...but I wanted to. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1278389243.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1278389261.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1278389272.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1278389282.jpg |
I would try and put some more insulation over the rear seats to match the old stuff. I see that you already laid some carpet down there over the hump but pull it up and put some Luxury Liner Pro down (or put the old liner back in).
People seem to think that the old sound mat must not be doing a good job simply because it's old. Yes, there are better materials today but I believe the factory knew what it was doing with the stuff they had back then. I pulled my old sound mat off my parcel shelf and replaced it with Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner Pro. I only had a small improvement in noise reduction. For being new, modern materials I was disappointed. I also replaced my old engine compartment sound pad with the new OEM pad. Hardly noticeable at all. Best of luck with the project. |
Took the day off today and did some more work. I've install almost all the carpets. I'm kind of disappointed with the fit of some, such as the pieces that go on the back of the backseat tops. They don't quite form to the seat, but installed they look fine. In fact, the whole interior looks like. Wife said it's very clean and nice smelling, which was the primary reason for the project. But you guys probably want to know about sound. Took it for a spin this afternoon, and there is a difference. Can't quite put a measure to it, but the car has a pleasant muffled sound to it if that is what you are looking for. Could just be me, but I think the rear speakers may be projecting better as well, I don't have to turn them up as much as I used to. Besides the interior stuff, the car just feels very nice...mainly due to the new shift ring I installed in the beginning. If you really want some bang for your buck...buy the $5 plastic piece and put install it, totally reformed my shifting experience.
I still have more pieces to finish. The carpet that goes around the pedals need modification...so it's on the wife's list to resew some parts. The covers for the blowers at your feet aren't installed in the picture and they need new carpets put on them. And finally, I haven't touched the doors at all. And you'll notice in the pitures that the vinyl and leather parts are quite worn. Well, they just weren't on my list of things to do...you have to draw the line somewhere. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279249359.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279249375.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1279249395.jpg |
