Couple of brake line replacement questions.
Recently replaced G50 flex line and had trouble threading the fittings......meantime brake fluid continued to run out draining the reservoir. What a mess!
(1) Is it true that if you hold the brake pedal down it will keep the reservoir from draining while replacing the brake lines? (2) If I had depressed the clutch pedal while replacing the G50 flex line to the slave, would that have prevented fluid drain? (3) Finally, the SS brake lines are a different length (13-3/4" and 11"). Are the shorter lines for the front or the rear? Thanks

1. No, the brake cylinder cups will not have pressure against them in the MC and will leak still.
2. See #1. Here is an easy trick: Disconnect the line and plug the end with a golf tee or similar item. On a fitting that it won't fit in just use a bolt that is the size of the fitting, if it still leaks a little put a small piece of bicycle innertube in the end of the blot to give it a little seal.

Mark,
I propped a 2x4 against the brake pedal approx 1/2way depressed. Blocked with another 2x4 on the seat front - got this info from other threads here, never gushed out/lost much - it was a big concern I had too before starting but I was pleasantly surprised. I did use a tray/litter box as backup, but hardly needed it. Can't answer the slave cyl question. Can't recall lengths, Wayne's 101 project book mentioned the ss lines end 'nuts' would be keyed differently (externl flat side) to differentiate front/rear, but the units I rcvd had NO keying for my 87. I just matched the lengths to the removed OEM lines.

Mark,
Yes the lines are different lenghts front and rear and you will also have to bleed your clutch slave cylinder which is on top of your transmission. Requires a 7mm socket for the nipple, pain in the ass spot but once you figure out the best access position you'll be good to go. I just did all that stuff on my car a few weeks ago. Do as Dan says, with the 2x4's and you will have minimal leakage ! Cheers! Phil

According to Milt from another thread.....
"Long in front" Hopefully not an April fools response as the thread was dated long before his Pelican Sabbatical. Thanks Milt! SS brake lines- short or long ??
