Sport seat delima

I'm thinking about getting OE "sport" seats to keep the look. I would like to know if they are any good for the occasional DE and/or Auto-X?
Are they much better than the standard seats?
I'm referencing the 78-83 seats.
TIA

I put in OE sport seats and they were much better than the standard seats while on the track.

Are factory sport seats a pain for a daily driver? Frequent in/out?

Never do DE's.

No. Well, I have no issues, though I don't drive it daily. They're not just a track thing. The girlfriend likens them to being hugged when she's in the car. Must be a chick thing...

They're nice but tend to wear out on the outside edge from entering and exiting.

+1 what he said.

Only issue for daily driving is that you might need slightly more room to open the door to get in/out.

Tcar,

I have the sport seats in my 89 Carrera Coupe and i like them. You have to get used to "easing" your way into them but once you're settled they're comfortable and supportive.

Cheers !

Mines not a DD so convenience is no biggie. I'm just trying to decide between them and aftermarket seats... Recaro, Sparco etc. Like I said I would prefer to keep the look if the "sports" are adequate for DE use. Sounds like they are... now if I can find some with good foam that need new covers for a good price.

I LOVED my old sport seats. They hold you very well in the kidney area and are very comfortable. You won't regret buy a set, though they are expensive.

Sport Seats

Got a friend that tracks his SC (he's an instructor) that has standard seats in his car. I let him sit in my car and he said "I need your seats."
YMMV.

I like 'em even though I'm a tad wider than optimal for them.
They are all day seats in that they are firm and supportive.
I say go for 'em over the after market ones unless money becomes a problem.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the OE sport seats. I had and 86 cab with them, and now have an 84 without. I wish I could find a set in my color. As mentioned, slow in and slow out, but very snug when in them.

I love them--and I've had a lot of aftermarket seats in my cars over the years. No way they will be as supportive as a racing seat, but they are a better compromise, IMHO, for street and occasional DE car than anything else. They do take some getting used to on entry and exit, as others have mentioned.

Thanks all, I just bought some from the flea-bay. They will need new covers, sliders and poss. some foam... we'll see.

Scott Douglas... I would be interseted in knowing who made your covers??? They look great!

Of course... the most expensive vendor. That's great
I guess I'll be saving my pennies for those. Excellence is expensive!

Make sure you get the right covers when the time comes.
There were two styles of sport seats for the SC. Scott's are the earlier ones... used up to '79 IIRC. The later ones from '80-'84 have a small plastic cover over the hinge, and don't have the large metal hinge brackets.

Thanks for that. I believe mine are the later ones as they have the round adjustment knob on the side. Other than what you pointed out... what's the difference?
I don't have mine yet to look at. They should arrive next week.

I owe the seats to my brother's good taste. He had them done when he owned the car. We put them in when we swapped cars. I thought I was getting it with a set of ES Recarro's but he wanted the adjustable headrests so the car ended up with these.
Perforated leather bolsters/courduroy inserts/leather for the rest of it. I have not had a single person say they don't like my seats after they've sat in them. They took a while to grow on me as, like I said, I'm a tad wider than they are but I've grown to love 'em and wouldn't trade 'em for anything now.

Just got my seats! I'm stoked. I ordered new foam (drivers side upper bolsters and lower left bolster) and backrest release knobs from our host today. I'm undecide about who to buy covers from... Auto's International is very expensive. Anyone have any reccomendations? Leaterseats.com?

I bought Recaro SRDs and then had them redone in leather. Local upholstery shops are better than buying a "kit"....
