Long overdue introduction - my "Tarp" find
I was looking for a project car and knew my uncle had a porsche that he purchased after safely returning from Vietnam, but I had never seen it since he lived across the country (CA). He recently moved here to Texas and After some coaxing we pulled the tarp off and made a deal.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272378613.jpg I had inteded to get it running and use it as a daily driver. It all started with wanting to put in some new carpet :) Long story short, replaced all front and rear suspention bushings, lots of rust remidiation, added front sway bar, replace suspention pan, replace battery boxes (good ol unc, couldn't fit the battery so he sawzalled the boxes to get the batteries to fit, although you have got to love military guys. I have every receipt from purchase to now 4" thick folder of documentation), lots of POR and TLC to the uncoating and interior, TLC engine compartment, resto luggage compartment, and off to paint this month. Thanks to you all for participating in this wonderful forum. The wealth on knowledge here is tremendous as has allowed me to do this project with limited mechanical experience. Here are some addtional pics , I know my work is not the greatest but I have done it all myself and thats what its all about to me. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272379386.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272379450.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272379498.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272379611.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272379712.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272379821.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272379907.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1272380027.jpg |

your attention to detail is what makes this car stand out in the trunk area, no over spray and all the little details that normally get over looked you have not missed. the small details is what separates a nice car from a really nice car. keep up this work and you will have one beautiful car. cheers ed |
I agree, everything looks A-OK...very nice job bringing a long hood back to life!!!!

I thought my work was "pretty good", now after realizing that this is an example of "not the greatest" i am re-evaluating my skill level ........... and may need to start inquiring about taking some classes or finding a shop.
Nice work (but relist you skills as good or better, and make the rest of use feel OK) |
How's the engine?
|
Looks great!
Nice to keep it in the family. |

There was a car hanging around San Jose in the early 70's - just like that - personalized license plate was BLU MAX. Love to find that one!

It has been a loooonnng time since I last updated, but the car itself is almost complete. Only thing lacking is the seats which are being redone now and the gauges which are Pallo Alto for restoration.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1316104795.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1316104902.jpg Now onto this :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1316104948.jpg Stock 2.2T. The Zeniths are gummed up badly and will have a better assesment of the internal situation of the rest of the engine in the next few days when the cam tools arrive. The somewhat flexible budget is around 6k so I am looking for opinions on modifications and improvements that I could make for HP gains. Pistons?Carbs? Cams? Pistons, follow Waynes sugested crank swap. What have you guys done and what are the results? |
|
Good work.....
|
cleal,
If you want to have more power, get another engine (2.4, 2.7) and build yourself a 2.7RS-like engine with your Zeniths (new jets, venture) and black fan shroud. Stealth. Save your 2.2T in absolutely original, unmolested condition. Preserve it properly. Accumulate the new (& NOS) parts for a concourse, original rebuild someday. If you want a short-geared, LSD transmission, start with another 911/01 and save your numbers matching transmission. Nice work. Be sure to add internal rust prevention. Much damage is from the inside out. Check inside the rear torsion bar tube. Best, Grady |
Very nice!!
What a transformation! (Grady, what do you recommend for internal rust prevention)? |
