Watercooled Expert needed in Dallas This Saturday

My Cousin is buying a Boxster in Dallas area this Saturday. (2002 Non S with 66K miles)

zip code where the car is located 75205 (Highland park)

I'm wondering if anyone close at hand to Dallas is willing to listen to the car before he buys it, and then drives it home 500 miles.

Primarily I need someone that has heard the IMS bearing death rattle before. That's primarily my only worry.

(I also posted this on the Boxster side, but figure anyone with IMS experience is the only important detail)

Thanks!
Richard in KC
(Now I get to learn the watercooled engines too!)

I live about 15 minutes from HP. My only experience with Boxsters is that I got to drive an Ex's '98 Boxster while dating her. If no one else can see it, I should be able to.

Thanks Neil!
Have you had firsthand experience with the IMS noise? I'm not going to be there, So I'm pretty much looking for an experienced ear to help out those that might not be able to discern the noise from normal engine noises.

I'm in Austin, so I can't help.

I think you'll be fine finding someone that knows what a Boxster sounds like
and then know if it is different.

More than likely you won't know why it is making a sound -- but that should be
sufficient for what you are interested in knowing.

BTW, normal sounding doesn't mean you don't or won't have a problem,
it just gives a little more sense of security.

I bet very few people have heard the IMS failure noise.

I live in the Park Cities but won't be there Saturday. There are plenty of Porsche shops to do a PPI so they should have no problem getting someone qualified to look at it. Park Place Porsche is about 15 minutes away as well as some very solid independent shops over near I35. Dallas Eurocars, Loudens, etc.
Good luck

Thanks Buck! That's actually a perfect Idea. I just didn't know the names of the shops to call.
