Question Tire review/advice

Has anyone had any experience with the Dunlap Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec?
I am considering them for my 85 Carrera. Will use for street and some DE's.
I have only seen one review from Tire Rack were the owner had them on a 82 SC that had some suspension mods. He liked them overall.
Any advice.

Thanks,

Read the tire comparison test in Car and Driver from late 2009. They essentially beat the crap out of everything else in the comparo.

I have 225/45 & 255/40 x17 on my '76 C3

It's a great tire, probably the most bang for the buck out there, but not at all compromised by the reasonable price

I run these on my daily driver and will most likely get a set for use on the street for the 911 when the current street/wet tires are done (Bridgestone RE01Rs on there at the moment). The Dunlops have a lot of grip and are very predictable and have some really attractive prices.

In limited driving in other people's cars I would say the Kuhmo XS and the Bridgestone RE11 are a bit quicker. The Bridgestone seemed to have a little more especially on turn-in. And in terms of second hand feedback, the Kuhmo seems much more compromised and less effective in anything other than dry debris free driving.

Price being no object, I'd go with the RE11... and if I wasn't switching to R-Comps when I was off the street I might consider the Kuhmo XS. The Dunlop comes in just behind these for performance, works great in most conditions, is downright cheap for a performance tire, and a better performance tire than pretty much every other street tire (other than those two mentioned).

I'm using the Dunlop DZ1's on my 89 Carrera in 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 due to a brake upgrade and i have to admit they are excellent so far.

They are slightly noisier than the TOYO T1R's i had on last summer on my 16 inch Fuchs but nevertheless the are a great value/price option.
I read the Car and Driver test Talewinds is refering to as well before purchase and that convinced me

Cheers !

Great tire. Prior to having these I had the Bridgeston SO3 which I thought was a great tire, then they quit selling the SO3's so I I went with the DZ1's. I am glad Bridgestone quit making the SO3's.

Anybody compared the Star Spec to the Falken RT-615? I read once that they were the same rubber compound. I bought a set of the 615s really cheap for my factory 17s, so we'll see how they do.

Hey

how quick is steering response with the dz1s vs the re-11s.

I really want to find a tire again that has a really stiff sidewalk so tha I don't have ANY of that "wallowy" feeling when on the highway and do a mini s type move. Ie slightly to the left, but definitely weighting the suspension, and then going back to the right, again weighting the suspension. I'm tired of tires that seem solid, but when ya do that, it takes an extra oscillation for the car to settle. And that's pretty much all sidewall flex.

Hopefully I was able to describe what I mean.

I'd recommend them. I just put them on my 1987 Carrera, and did my first autocross with them a couple of weeks ago. Grip was quite good. I also noticed that the guy who ran the top time of the day was using them on his 1993 RS America. They also seem to have decent grip in the rain.

I switched from Fuzions in 205/55 and 245/45-16s to 225/25 and 255/40-17 Direzzas. The first thing that immediately made an impression on me was that they rode better. This might not be a big deal, but a little bit of extra comfort doesn't hurt, right?

I haven't put many miles on, yet, so can't comment otherwise.

Ole,

The Toyos are a wonderful tire !
The reason i tried Dunlops is that i had bought brand new 16 inch TOYO T1R's last May and decided to upgrade my brakes over the Winter and i had to go with 17 inch wheels therefore having to buy yet another set of brand new tires...

The Dunlops cost a lot less than the T1R's and they had a great review on Car and Driver.
One thing about the TOYO's is that they have a larger variety of tire sizes than most other manufacturers !

If you have GURUS like Bill V using the Dunlops, you can be sure they are a good choice

Cheers !

Michael,

Just to add to your sidewall flex comment, the tire tech that installed the Dunlops on my 17 inch Fikses was cursing at them stating that he felt like he was installing his tires on his motocross rims ... lol
He couldn't believe how stiff the sidewalls were !

Cheers !
