took my SWB drag racing today.........
they run 1/8 mile drags near here and I've always wondered how the car would do. took the plunge. I've NEVER drag raced ( formally) before today. my reaction times were on the long side, to say the least. $10 entrance fee and $20 to run your car, as many times as you want. you could easily do a dozen runs during the day. I only did three. once I felt I had a decent time didn't see much point in beating on my car any more. vid 1 - very nervous first race. vid 2 - good run vid 3 - little slower than number 2, they has sprayed the track and it was a little slick, I was getting some wheelspin. interesting to see how much the front end unloads under accelerastion. best time was 8.8 sec at 81 mph. 60 ft was 2 sec flat. I was easily the fastest car in the street class, but didn't have time to hang around to do the run-offs for my t-shirt. fwiw there were some very grumpy american iron drivers there. I figure I could get down to 8.5 with a little less respect for my CV's but I got what I wanted, an idea of what the junker can do.

Pretty cool !
I always wondered how our cars would do in a drag race , although i probably wouldn't attempt it myself for fear of ripping out the axles or something like that ... lol Cheers ! Phil

well thats cool to hear the porsche was at the top of the class. those test and tune days are cool that you can run as much as you want. I usto do that back in the day its hard on any car going over and over. something different to do once in a blue moon

registered in '67. it was a ridiculous amount of fun. with the 915 my weak link is the original SWB cv joints, so I figured even a catastrophic failure wouldn't be too bad. now I just need to get a bunch of the local PCA guys out and really see what's what.
