Light Gray

Porsche only designed and approved of the scoops because they HAD to by law! Same thing with the accordion impact bumpers...don't get me started on those...

This guy prefers scoops:

Don't like sugar scoops.....never have.

The euro H4's aren't better lights than the H4's that fit sugar scoops. Same bulb, same lens lighting pattern...

And, they're a lot less expensive. Lot less likely to be 'lifted' in the middle of the night.

Deschodt 05-05-2010 12:10 PM

Hate them... except on one car seen elsewhere on this board (an early 911 painted sand beige with chromed scoops - it just works on that car)

I've removed them on every 911/912 car I've owned. I probably have a set or 2 gathering dust, not that I'm hoping they'll become collectible or anything...I should give them away to someone local...

80-911SC 05-05-2010 06:13 PM

personally two scoops belong in raisin bran

but what about the h-5 ????????

euro look
with silver star bulbs and relay kit very good light dispersement
and I have never heard of them falling out, due to the superior mounting system

don't get me wrong H4 may be better and H1 very nice but the H5 does have its strong points ...............

tcar 05-05-2010 10:04 PM

H5's don't do well with higher wattage bulbs. The bases melt. Sometimes even with the normal bulbs.

They don't have the excellent dispersion pattern of the H4 or H1 (the best) either.

Me too. The scoops look best on long hoods.

Am I alone?

i can not stand to see these cars without the scoops. i dont understand why people prefer the look with them removed. it ruins the long fender design, which you mentioned.

was looking through my copy of Original Porsche 911 by Peter Morgan last night and noticed that the vast majority of the beautiful cars in that book were missing their scoops.....YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what do you mean the "proper" headlight look is the euro h4? people really do this for the "look" of it? i dont get it

ramonesfreak 05-06-2010 04:16 PM

and i also think accordion bumpers are beautiful

Something like this, perhaps?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273333277.jpg

I did put in 7" H4s...but it's always seemed to look right with scoops. Then again, I really didn't like the scoops on my 84...one of the first "upgrades" was Euro H4s with painted rings.

oregonmon 05-08-2010 09:38 AM

I didn't think this would be such a polarizing thread. Funny how people's opinions can be so strong.:D

RWebb 05-08-2010 11:57 AM

I've seen sugar scoops... sugar scoops that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what sugar scoops mean. sugar scoops... sugar scoops have a face... and you must make a friend of sugar scoops. sugar scoops and moral terror are your friends. If they are not, then they are enemies to be feared. ....

You have to have men who are ... able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment!

sugar scoopers should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across floors of silent seas...

We must kill the sugar scoops. We must incinerate them. Pig after pig... cow after cow... village after village... army after army... Kill them! Kill them all -- all the sugar scoops.

The sugar scoops? They're wacko, man! They're worse than crazy. They are evil. It's f ***in' pagan idolatry. Look around you. f ***! They're loco... I ain't afraid of all them f***in' skulls and altars and sugar scoop sh** t. I used to think if I died in an evil place with sugar scoops, then my soul wouldn't be able to make it to Heaven.

On the river, I thought that the minute I looked at the sugar scoops, I'd know what to do, but it didn't happen. I was in there with them for days, the car was not under guard; I was free, but the sugar scoops knew I wasn't going anywhere. They knew more about what I was going to do than I did. If the engineers back in Nha Stuttgart could see what I saw, would they still want me to kill them? More than ever, probably. ... I'd never seen sheet metal so broken up and ripped apart.

I think it's pretty safe to say that RWebb is no to keen on sugar scoops. I wonder how he REALLY feels. :D

dgmark,

What kind/type of front bumper do you have? This is the same bumper I have on my 911 but I haven't been able to find the type or who makes it. Is the lower portion just black paint or have you altered it any?
many thanks,
j

Are they from Apocalypse Never ?

My first 911 had sugar scoops, and it was my favorite car of all time, so I will always love them. I also recall them from ads put out when the cars were new. Nostalgia precedent there.
