Tap case for SSI install?
Just getting around to fitting everything up and there are these two tabs on the SSI's that look like they call to be bolted down but there's no holes tapped in the case to bolt them down. Did I miss something along the lines of install research? I don't recall ever reading that someone had to tap the case to install SSI's. If so, are the 6 or 8mm?
Thanks

Weird that those case flanges aren't already drilled & tapped.
go for it. edit: I expect that it's a 6mm.

I think there's usually a short M6 stud right there, and you put a nut and a lock washer on it.

Mine had a tapped hole there already (not a stud). That is strange. M6 sounds correct.
Come to think of it, I had to re-drill the tab on the SSIs because the hole didn't line up with the case.

Don't bother, they aren't necessary.

My '86 3.2 has no hole or stud either. I was also wondering if I should drill and tap for the SSI's.

If you want those to line up you need to slacken the barrel nuts on the pipes to the heads get those bolts installed and tighten everything up. I had the same issue, however I'm that guy that can't stand missing nuts and bolts so I went back in a fixed it. I doubt as mentioned above that they actually do anything however.

I guess I'll leave them alone. The area is very accessible so I can do it later if there it too much vibration.
Hoping to have it back in by the weekend. Replacing Vacuum lines and CIS stuff today and tomorrow and I should be good to go.

My '84 didn't have bolt holes for them either. I just left the tabs blowing in the breeze - no problems so far.

I drilled and tapped mine. Being such a big expence, I think it is good insurance againt vibrating any welds loose and having a rattle.

I drilled and tapped them and put in M6 studs... Fit is perfect due to being able to do the drilling after a trail fit of the SSI's
