1st Generation 930's
Just curious what everyone thinks of these, mine is a '77 model, 100k mi silver with lobster interior. Mods include 1 bar spring and RUF wheels. So far this thing has been a dream. I do need a clutch this winter however. I wonder about the collectability of them as well. I guess there were only like 740 of these imported in '77. They seem to get the Heisman from late model owners and I just wonder why? I mean this is where it all started right?

Sorry, I can't agree with your "best" vote. I mean, mine has to be the best right? It was however, the beginning of a legacy that defined my idea of a "supercar". IMHO, it peaked with the '97 Turbo S, which many people on this board have wished for as their "ultimate" P-car.
--Disclaimer-- Seeing as how my '79 is the ONLY Porsche I have actually driven, I may change my mind with a stint behind the wheel of any other year Turbo. (Any offers here would be seriously considered). ![]() |

I don't know as I've never driven one.
Do they go OK? I assume an old car like that is not quite as fast as my later-model 944. But it looks nice. ![]()

94 3.6 turbo S..... the last king of oversteer. The 993 based turbos are the tamed and refined versions except for the very raw and rare REAL 993 GT2's (kind of the 934-935 of it's time)

I myself have not voted, I am interested in your thoughts. If I had I dont think I would go with #1. I personally would opt for a 993TT with the new tiptronic(now be nice). I drive my 930 everyday in the fair seasons and rowing thru the gears in traffic gets annoying sometimes. These cars are indeed fast, quick? not sure I would say quick, fast is a much better word. I have run side by side with an '83 930 all the way to 120 and he got the jump till about 40. Then we were dead even. I picked mine up in great shape for 15k and have seen others in this price range. I just think they are a GREAT car for the $. In fact may be the best bang for the buck in german autos.

I gotta vote for the earlies as best. The "overkill" looking rear flares are what stands out most to me. The 964's are definitely the brutes, but I think the earlies still possess the true widebody look. They're all super cars but I gotta vote for 5axis' 5 speed grand finale of the early-style body. I do think the 94 3.6 with the 18 in. Speedlines is just as tough looking (and scary fast i'm sure) as anything, but i'm just biased toward the pre-90's stuff.

I have a 1977 930, and to me they are great cars with a fantastic look, lightest of the turbo's, the later cars have interccolers, a little more horsepower stock..... and more bells and whistles...I have driven a few later turbo's but none seen to have the raw power of the early cars, just my opinion....the fun of them is driving so close to the dreaded "swap end syndrone" make sure the roads are no wet tho :-) been there done that NOT fun :-)

I have never driven a '76-77 930, but I know that my '79 SC with a C2T engine crammed in it HAULS A$$ !

I prefer the 75/76/77 Turbo's because they are historically significant in that they were originally built to get the race cars qualified. Although the performance was continually improved after 77, they were tamed and civilizied too much for my tastes.
