Would you ship it ? ... This will be only our second porsche , You guys have tought me alot about my 75s just by me sitting quietly in the back of the classroom,

Question

Congratualation on the cab purchase. Driving vs. shipping sounds like a personal choice. If you have the time and want to drive the 1500miles it might be a very fun road test in your new cab. If you're short on time and would have to drive round the clock, I would ship. I shipped my car and would do it again. I shipped from Cal. to Wash. for $900. I used Intercity lines. They only use enclosed trailers and strap the tires not the suspension. If you ship, check the place out carefully. I've seen some posts of bad experiences. I also saw a porsche show up at a dealer that had been tied down using the rear suspension. The entire rear suspension was broken on one side when it arrived.
I don't know anything about a C4 cab. I'm sure the usual applies...make sure it's been checked out by a good mech. and get a leak down test, etc..
Enjoy the car!!

congrats,

i wouldn't hesitate to drive an unknown car home that distance, because i drove mine home even further, having never driven a porsche in my entire life.

there is nothing like a long drive to get yourself acquainted with the car.

have fun and good luck!

One thing I can think of is whether the belt in the distributor has been taken care of. That is, either it's been replaced/rebuilt or the vent kit has been on the car since early in its life. Just something to think about.

Thanks, I'm wanting to drive the car but the misses keep recalling our last purchase/road trip in the 75 , from Agusta to south Fla. with no Ac or radio in a black car in the middle of summer .(I had a grin on my face the whole way). Help me explain to her this is a different car..

What do you guys think of the cab?

Thumbs up

Nice car, JohnPaul! Tell spousal unit that 2-70 air conditioning will work like a charm (2 windows down, 70 MPH!).

One caveat, though: Recommend heavy-duty sunblock, particularly on the upper thighs. You'll be enjoying the top-down driving too much to worry about such meddling things, but at the end of the day a sunburn tends to blot an otherwise perfect day of driving.

Oh... a couple of worthless baseball caps come in handy, too... just in case they blow off at speed!

Life's a journey, not a destination. Enjoy the ride, dude!

Looks like a pretty sweet ride to me! As far as the typical 964 problems go, it looks like two of the main 3 troubles have already been addressed on your car (dual mass flywheel, and distributor belts). The only other gremlin worth mentioning would be cylinder head oil leakage, as I believe your car didn't use head gaskets. I think only a small percentage of cars were affected by this though. If you decide to drive, have a fun road trip!

Just my 2 cents: Two weeks ago I bought a '90 C4 Cab from a close friend for $21k. It has 71k miles, nice red paint with full options. List for 83$k when new. Have the original window sticker and all records. I hope you didn't pay the stated $26k for yours ?

I wouldn't drive it 1500 miles, just a gut feeling. I'dlet a trusted shipper handle it and when you get it have it checked over by a good Porsche guy. I also have a high miles '95 Cab 106k miles and was only offered $30 for it.

I'd say drive it. Brian Buxton is a straight-forward guy with a superb reputation. If there were any reason not to drive the car that distance I'm sure he'd tell you.
I'd also say that the price is pretty sweet. Too bad you saw it before I did:-)

You're buying a high mileage car. Has a PPI been done? Even if it has I think I would consider, no I wouldn't consider, I WOULD have the car shipped, and not just a 964...any car....unless the price is REALLY high to have it shipped.

The last thing you need is to be stranded in some place that's not even listed on a map in need of a "specialty" mechanic.

Just my opinions,

Bill Wagner (paranoid as usual!)

964cab,

just because a close friend gave you a sweet deal on your car doesn't mean that is the market price. the 26k is a reasonable price for that car. also, because some guy gives you a low offer on your 95, that doesnt't mean that 95 cab's are only worth 30k. you didn't sell it for that, did you?
