What do I replace at the 90k service?
How's this list for a 1986 3.2:
spark plugs valve cover gasket set (to adjust valves) air filter fuel filter oil and oil filter transmission oil a/c and fan/alt belts Now, what about distributor cap and rotor? Worth $53 to replace? And wires, at something like $230! Thanks, Chris. |

I have a 85 911 and just replaced the spark plug wires at 82K. The old ones looked good but you have to remember that if they are the factory wires, they are 17 years old at least! Was lucky and found a brand new set on Ebay for $120!
Mine runs a bit smoother and gas mileage is up a bit but not a bunch. Do not have an occasional miss when it rains now... I did my dist rotor and cap at the 60k inspection. After 60k miles I feel I have gotten my moneys worth out of it! Would rather do preventative maintenance than repairs on the side of the road. One more thing I will replace on my 90k inspection is all of the vacuum hoses. After 18 years or so and almost 100k they have to be getting old and on the verge of splitting. Again, cheap insurance in my mind. There are lots of them on the motor. Worth it for me! JA

Here is some more misc. stuff you may want to at least inspect/test, not necessarily replace:
brake pads/wear sensors brake fluid (change it, it's cheap!) flexible brake lines e-Brake shoes A/C refrigerant hood/deck lid shocks? (make sure to get the heavy duty ones) all relays/fuses 02 sensor oil pressure switch ground straps battery? charging system tie rods/ball joints clutch cable weather stripping/seals oil return tubes/oil lines etc. etc. etc. If you replace the valve gaskets, make sure to get the "kit" that comes with all new nylock nuts, washers, and sump cover plate. As for plugs, you may want to try Bosch's Platinum +4's. They are gauranteed to make a (small) performance increase, and they come pre-gapped. Oh, and don't forget to check the muffler bearings and blinker fluid! ![]() -Eric |

Good list Eric! Especially the brake fluid. I try to get to that once a year. Really cheap insurance. What about the O2 sensor? My Bentley manual says thats a 60k interval part. I don't have any service records that show it being replaced at 60k, but I was thinking about waiting until 120k.

I don't really know why I included the O2 sensor, just rattling off whatever came to mind. I wouldn't even worry about it unless you are experiencing rough idle, surging, or any other "bad O2" symptoms. Have fun! -Eric |
