Porsche 930 Indicator (turn flasher)

Hi

I have an issue with my turn indicators on my 1983 930 Turbo basically when i move the stem either left turn or right turn mu indicators dont work.I use the emergency flasher and they all illuminate and work but using the stem they dont?

I have checked all the fuses and in fact just replaced the emergency flasher fuse all seem intact.Obviously its not the bulbs otherwise they wouldnt work at all.

Any ideas where to start guys ? Im a novice to this so an idiots guide with pics would help .

Many thanks guys

Sounds like the turn signal stalk is the culprit here.

It is pretty easy to replace but you need to do a little more diagnosis.

Read these threads and you can decide if you are comfortable getting into this project. If not, at least you will have anidea of what needs tobe done by a mechanic.

Turn signals
Replacing turn signal switch and removing headlight switch

Additionally my interior lights (the lights that illuminate the cabin either side above the doors) dont illuminate .

Could this be connected?

Thanks for your help .

How handy are you with a multi-meter? This will be needed to do some of the diagnosis.

How hacked up is your car? No offense intended but did a previous owner install an aftermarket alarm/stereo/disco ball?

This could be causing your pain.

You stated that all of the fuses looked good so that's a start but check the ends of them. Corrosion can make the contact area weak. You can clean them or replace them.

The interior lights not working is most likely due to bad pin switches in the doors. With your doors open twist the button up by the hinges and see if they come on. They are supposed to have rubber covers over them but sometimes they are missing and let moisture into the switch causing it to fail.

Here is the circuit from my '86 factory manual,
which may or may not accomodate your model/year.

When, and how did this anomoly surface?

And, why did you need to replace the fuse?

Do you have a multimeter?

Good luck,

Gerry

no its stock 930 save for the stereo .There is an engine immobiliser but thats always been there and the turn indicators worked fine .

I did replace a steering wheel a long while ago could that have impacted on anything?
Multimeter =never used one in my life but im sure willing to try .
Its all a steep learning curve but hopefully with the help of this forum i will get there .

Any and asll help ig greatfully received .I still have the fault but will give the suggestions a try .Especially the fuse check for my turn indicators. Then i guess i better learn how to use a multimeter !

Gents

I have had the steering column cover prized open and can see on the indicator stem assembly that the top of the assembley has a metal connector highlighted in the pictures ive taken in red but below highlighted in black there is no such connector.

Should there be two so when u switch up or down they complete the circuit thus illuminating your right or left indicator ? or am i wide of the mark here?

I think you should remove the steering wheel so you can get in and see the switch itself. I'm not sure what those pins you are pointing out do, though.

I dug through some more threads and found one that has some great detailed steps to help in the diagnosis.Carrea Blinker problem..I did a search

BTW-YOUTUBE has some great videos on how to correctly use/read a multi-meter.

I had a fellow Pelican walk me through a diagnosis recently due to my ignorance of using this tool. (Thanks again Gerry!!)

thanks wayne ,the pin appears to sit on top of a block and when u move the indicator stem up it makes contact with the metal part shown ,it doesnt make sense that theres only one on the top .
