Trailex CT-7031 and 911

Hi all, I've found a Trailex CT-4031 for sale locally. Question is would it work for a 86 Carrera? I've long heard the proper trailer for the 911 is the CT-7541 and the CT-4031 is better suited for the 914.

Does anyone have a CT-4031 and use it for their mid-year 911?

Thanks,
Kris

Just purchased a CT-4031 as well.
It came from a guy who raced his 911 and towed with this trailer.
This fellow has specially widened the trailer....moved the fenders out on each side a couple of inches.
I will be towing my 73 RSR style car with this trailer, so that is nice that he did that and part of the reason I purchased the trailer.

As far as I know, no problems towing with a CT-7031.

W/ Trailex the issue is where the axles were placed. They can either be set up w/ axles for front engine or for rear engine car transport. Ask the owner what it was setup for originally

also are you sure it's a 4031? they have 7031, 7541, 8045, 8060

Sorry, you're right Bill, it is a 7031. Mistyped on my part. I'm not too worried about the width, but more the length. I may take the trailer home soon and test fit.

again, you will want to know what the axles were set up for

the decks are not going to be an issue

besides the axle location the only other issue is ramps, if you have a low car, particularly in front you will need extensions

like these

here is the 7031

here is the 7541

I have a 7541 911 & 993 fit comfortably on it, notice that the 7031 deck is 5" narrower, that could be a concern as on the sides there is room, but not a lot of room. It allows some freedom when placing the car on the trailer. The doors will clear the fenders fine

I bought my Trailex from a guy who raced a 944.

The first thing I did was move the axles back for better weight placement. Easy to do.

Thanks for everyones input, it's getting closer. I looked under the trailer this afternoon and there are only brakes on one axle, the front. Is that normal?

Thanks,
Kris

Yep, brakes, either surge or electric are on the front axle only.

Along the same lines, does anyone have a good estimate about what a Trailex trailer is worth? I bought this used maybe 8 years ago and it was made in 1996. I don't have the model number handy, but it was made for a 911. Also has the tire rack, storage trunk, alloy wheels, and surge breaks. My brother has been using it the past 2 years and is asking to buy it. I'm just looking for the fair market value. If anyone needs more information, it can get it.

Thanks,

I too have been looking at the used Trailex market.

I'm thing $4500..

Mine has BRAND NEW tires and 5 spoke wheels brand new electric brakes, and an electric winch and tire rack.

I'll be looking more towards$4800-5K.

Thanks. I only live an hour away from the Trailex shop and I had them completely overhaul the braking system last year with a completely new system. On top of the that, they repacked the bearings and gave it a once over. Like I said, I am trying to come up with a fair price.

My 7541 has e-brakes on both axles, that's something i'd want a lot here in the eastern mts and even more in Colorado.

just me, but it sounds as if there are much better choices for you than this trailer( the 7031).
