The date 'seems' to be (month ?) / 72

I think 1972 was a transition time for the part number casting . In 1972 , the last 2 digits of the part number : 911.361.020.XX can have a box around them , or not. Most 1972 seem not to have the box , but then those are 6" - 9" versions I have examined .....never any 11's. But I HAVE seen a 1972 dated wheel with the box (a flat 6") . I have not examined many 1973 dated wheels to know about that year ...and by 1974 they all have the box. 1971 and earlier do not have it.

You check the other wheel to see if the month is visible . It will precede the last two digits of decade. Starting in the 80's , the date codes were a differant numbering system.

I like the color of the car.


PS - if they are 1972 vintage , I would guess they have been refinished. As far as I know, the barrels would be rough anodized originally from the factory at that time period (until mid 1975 calender year) combined with the outer lip face a brighter smoother anodizing.

Those look amazing. Out of curiosity, any idea of their value?

Does anybody know if the center section was beefed up to deal with the added stresses for their great width (and racing)?

They are designed for racing and somewhat valuable. They come up intermittently and good sets are often listed @ $10k.

The more sought after finish has become the "RSR" finish. I may do that down the road although the current finish is holding up nicely.
