Engine mounts?
Just notice both my engine mounts on my 87 Targa are worn, cracked and brittle. I plan on ordering two new ones from our host. Should I go with the original or do you think the sport mounts are any better? Thanks Lenny

I don't think there's a noticeable difference from the seat of your pants, between the standard and the club sport/cabriolet mounts. Either will do you just fine for the street.
However there certainly is a reason for there being two different mount types. Cabrio likely needs the stiffer mounts to offset the roof loss = less structural stiffness. Club Sport has them to reduce driveline lash. Either type pales in comparison to solid metal mounts. Don't go there.........

If your engine mounts are worn, cracked, and brittle, chances are your transmission mounts will be in the same condition.
I will be replaciing all 4 on my 86 cab...

well, there are 2 levels of Wevo mounts also
if you mix/match for the trans. and engine, then you have maybe 8 choices, not just 4 to consider stiffer mounts = less movement of the big heavy powertrain rel. to the body BUT stiffer mounts = more NVH I really encourage you to run a search & read the threads, then think carefully about what you want before spending money |

I have WEVO. Our host sells them. There was a shifting improvement and I belive it was money well spent.

Just read the tech notes on the Wevo semi solid mounts, sounds very tempting. I might have to spring for the extra cash and do it right!

Yes, I second the WEVO's. I have them on both of my cars and every car I do work on. I love the "Blue" Pillows. They are available thru Pelican or on the WEVO website directly.

Spray some penetrating oil from underneath into the threads. They can be so rusted that the crossbar ends are twisted and broken off when trying to open the bolts. Anyway, use a floor jack to support the load from underneath and replace the mounts one by one with correct torque ~60 ft-lbs.

I went to solid mounts and they do give a bit more buzz and noise. I'm not a good enough driver to tell if they are better, but with all the mods combined that I have the car handles great and feels very predictable.

I went with the WEVOs and had a big improvement in shifting with a slight increase in NVH.
Money well spent and one of the more "reasonable" improvements to the car!
