Oil Recommendation for So Cal
I've been running Castrol 20/50 and things have been fine with little drive time on the car since pulling her out of storage. She will be on the road more and I'm wondering if this is the best choice in So Cal. She's purring beautifully, very pretty and I think she deserves the best! Any recommendations? Thanx in advance!

If oil cooled car Brad Penn 20/50 is one of the best. Valvoline VR1 racing 20/50 is another good oil for our cars and is on sale for 50% off at all Autozones thru May 31.

Hi,
Welcome to the best 911 BBS on the planet. You will be astounded by the number of folks here who really know their stuff (I know I am constantly amazed). To help us help you better, please add your location to your profile and post a few dozen pictures of your car. You want to use a high quality 20W-50 oil with lots of ZDDP (more than 1100 ppm Zinc and Phosphrus). Why? Read here (yes I know it is very long): Ultimate Motor Oil Thread or Why we hate CJ4/SM oils Some potential brands to consider: Brad Penn Kendall GT Valvoline VR-1 Royal Purple

Brad Penn 20W50 seems to be the best compromise on price and quality. Swepco and some of the others in the thread are more expensive but have a little more zinc, phosphorous, boron, or have lots more molybdenum. Brad Penn has enough zinc and phosphorous and is a quality base oil. It is not very expensive and most Porsche shops have it in stock. It has just enough detergents to clean the engine between longer street oil change intervals, unlike race oils.
I previously used Castrol GTX 20W50. It ended up thin, black, and stinking of fuel. It seemed to leak more, too. Using Brad Penn makes me appreciate the quality base stock, which holds up to the shear for longer. Other high-end dino oils use this as well. I have fewer oil leaks and the oil stays much cleaner and I do not smell fuel in it. I did not change anything with the MFI, just the oil. I will not go back. ![]()
