'87 Carrera Interior - what's leather, what's vinyl?

More newbie questions !

Please tell me what is leather and what is vinyl on the interior of a '87 Carrera.... dash, door panels, top door trim, rear package tray. whatever.

I just finished a four-day full Leatherique treatment of the front seats (full leather option), and the results are fantastic! Granted, the seats were in superb condition to start with, but now they are just gorgeous. So, now I'm eager to "Leatherique" the remaining leather parts of the interior (I'll be doing the rear seats later).

Many, many thanks, and a very Happy Fathers' Day to all the daddys in the group!

Rob

The answer is, "it depends". As in how was your car ordered. There were many options available. My car was ordered with "full leather" complete. Included dash, door tops, door panels, rear tray, rear seats. In other words anything you touch that looks like leather, is leather. It was a rather pricey upgrade!
That said, it should be rather easy to determine vinyl from leather if you look carefully.
Vinyl feels different to the touch and the texture is quite different. Also you can, if possible , find some place the get a look at the back of the material and you will see a fabric type look if it is vinyl.
Good luck

Thanks! The window sticker has a line item over on the right side (option side) that states: "All Leather Seats - Black" $1,112.00 in 1987

There are no other options noted on the sticker inside the hood.

Makes sense.... yes, I would recognize the difference if I could see the back... I'll look harder!

Thanks again,

Rob

Rob,

Look at the sticker under the hood for the 2 digit trim code. It will be to the right side, above the options area.

OK... Thanks javadog! I got tired of trying to read the sticker upside down with bifocals (!), then I remembered that there's one inside thte Warranty & Maintenance Book.

I suspect you only have partial leather .The front seat seating surfaces.
Full leather was a lot more than $1200 even in 87. Look at the dash top .If it,s full leather it will likely be shrunken and deformed by now. Years ago I had a 1986 cab with full leather and the dash warped before the car was 5 years old.

That's VN. A leatherette (vinyl) interior with leather seats. The leatherette usually has more grain than the leather. It also doesn't really have much of a smell, unlike the leather. So, you should be able to look at it and tell.
