Does a tow truck home count as being green

Making a turn onto a highway my baby died on me. Luckily I was able to turn into a car dealership and get off the road. Last filled up two hundred miles ago so probably not bad gas. I haven't replaced the fuel filter lately so I'll start with that and the DME relay. When I tried to restart it would spin but not fire. After twenty minutes of waiting I tried it again and it fired up and dies right away.
Anything else That should be a prime suspect?

You can use a jumper wire on the fuse box to jump power over to the fuel pump fuse - it bypasses the DME - a quick and dirty DME test...

Well replacing the DME relay did nothing. Measuring the voltage at the f. pump fuse there is nothing with key off and it goes to 12 volts when the key is turned on. I did not hear anything coming from the general area of the pump so I turned off the key and shorted a hot fuse to the fuel pump fuse. Can't hear anything so at the moment I am leaning towards fuel pump.
I started to swap out the fuel filter and could not get the lower connection off. As I am frustrated and not thinking overly clearly at the moment I think I will go to bed and worry about it tomorrow. I did try having someone turn on the key while the top end of the filter was disconnected and there was no flow at all. To me that backs up my thought that it is the fuel pump. Or is there some safety shutoff that kills the pump if it detects and open line?
Thanks for the reply JB is there anything else I am missing?

Fuel pump month!!!!!!!!!!

A failed fuel pump stopped me dead in rush hour here several weeks ago. I managed to push the car with my wife behind the wheel across the busy intersection to a parking lot to check things out. The pumps noise was a high whin with metallic knocking. After several attempts at starting to include using my hand throttle (I have a 1973.5T/CIS) nothing happened. I could not even smell gas. Sometimes after cooling a pump will work for a short period of time til the points heat up and then suddenly fail. You will not get get far!

Based on what you have experienced, I would say your fuel pump is bad. Your pump is probably mounted forward near the rack and should be an easy replacement. I replaced mine with the OEM Pierberg unit.

When they say, "A bad fuel pump will leave you stranded", they ain't kidding................makes you want to carry a spare but I was wise enough to have the car towed home where the pump R&R was easy for me.
