With a 2.0L motor out of the car (69T) with tranny and starter motor attached do you think it is safe to do a cold compression test on an engine. Would there be enough residual oil in the bearings and cylinders to protect for 4 to 5 revolutions on each cylinder? There a no carbs attached. . The actual pressures might be a bit erroneous but I might get some idea of consistencey....might I? Any thoughts.

I've done leakdown tests with engine out of car with pretty consistent results. Don't need to crank engine. And if it does leak air, you can 'listen' for air leak to determine if it is valves or rings.
