Engine speed sensor question

I just replaced my clutch and buttoned up the transmission. Then remembered that I forgot to gap my sensors which are still in great shape However the bracket has been removed. Does anyone know any trick to gap them without taking the transmission off. Thanks for any suggestions . Doug

I believe it involves a penny taped to the sensor to set depth, tighten bracket, remove sensor, remove penny, re-install sensor. Speaking from memory of a prior post, never actually done this before.

I actually made a "custom" spacer when I recently did the job (engine & tranny in car). I used one of my old sensors, cut a feeler gauge of proper gap size (can't remember what that it is, but it's in the Bentley manual)
to fit on the end if it, and glued it there. It was a PITA to do, without dropping the engine, but was doable.

If you'd like, PM me and I can mail it out to you so you can use it.

Thanks for the offer. I found a piece of stainless wire that was .85m that I put in place and tightened the bracket. I was able to wiggle the wire out after. thanks again Doug
