I just got home from work and I'm about to install my new injector O-rings. Any last minute tips before I begine? I've read the Pelican article and it sounds easy.

Be very careful not to damage the orange injector insulators. If they're original, they can crack, and you don't want pieces of plastic falling down in the runner. Some may come out while you're removing the injector. You can press them back in, however you'll likely have an air leak. The "O" rings that seal the insulator to the runner sleeve get hard, and squared off over time. If possible, hold down the insulator and remove the injectors with a twisting motion. A couple of drops of oil on the on the injector "O" rings might help. If you can manage to get the injectors out without pulling an insulator, you're in luck!!
Under no circumstances pull the injector out at an angle. Make sure you pull it straight out of the insulator using even pressure. The most delicate part of the insulator is the end by the injector tip. It is thin plastic that can easily be broken if the injector is not pulled straight out. When re-installing the injectors, make sure you press them straight in as well, avoiding pushing them in at an angle. Now that I've scared the hell out you, it's really not a bad job if you're careful and don't rush things. Have fun! ------------------ Michael '78 911SC Euro |
