Weber fuel leak

I have one I can't find in the archives. I keep smelling fuel coming from the engine bay, which after another post I thought was normal. Now I have a more fuel smell and fuel leaking from carbs!

On the passenger side it's the very front carb, and on the driver side the very rear. Fuel is leaking onto the intake gasket but not from above as far as I can tell.

You can see here where the gasket is wet below the throttle shaft.

This side I wiped off but the black gasket below the throttle shaft was wet as well with very fresh fuel.

Anyone know?

Scott, funny you should ask. Had exactly the same problem. With ignition on (fuel pump running), take a flashlight and look down into #1 carb/throat (driver's side rear) You will probably see fuel leaking through the pump jet (the part that delivers fuel from the accelerator pump when you open the throttle). What I found was wrong was that the Float closest to the rear (in my case driver's side, rear or #1) (rear float controls #1 carb/piston, the forward float controls #2 and #3) was allowing fuel to flow in and drip through the pump jet thus have gas pool on the throttle valve and leak. I readjusted the float (removing a washer) and all was well. You will need the float adjustment tool which I believe our host provides. Good luck and hope this helps. Steve

I like this answer, I'll check that now. THANKS!

Well, not dripping and now I'm getting bogging and backfires through the carbs. Guess I'll pull them tomorrow and clean them up again.

Mine where leaking alot like that. They where leaking from the float adjustment cap. I tryed all kinds of gaskets even the the gaskets from PMO. I finaly went to the hardware store and bought some gasket that fit and work great and the carbs quit leaking.

Will check that as well, I had all new float plugs installed last summer.

Float levels are very critical; there is no room for "Kentucky Windage" so be careful about making any changes in the quest for dealing with fuel leaks.

Yes, thank you. I don't like fire.
