Pool Acid (muriatic) to Clean/Prepare Caliper for Paint...
Caliper is off the car and being rebuilt. Wondering if this would work as an easy prep to paint. Thanx in advance for your help!

I used spray brake cleaner and wire brush. Which did a very good job.
Muriatic acid is really gnarly and toxic. lots of fumes, need to wear respirator etc. Be carefull Richard |

Muratic, very poor choice! Will destroy aluminum, and pit steel alloy. Use it for your pool or oil stains on the driveway.

If you want to use an aggressive solvent, Kerosene does a good job and cleans up easily.

If there is some rust or corrosion a good product is something like Prep and Prime, which is a solution of phosphoric acid. Available at most paint stores it will clean and remove rust. Unlike pool acid it will not harm steel or aluminum.

Oven cleaner works really well. Destroys grease and baked on grime. Then rinse with water if you are worried about residue.

Muriatic acid will definitely give you that "world war 1 trench experience."

Cream or paste type toilet bowel cleaner works great. Most have a mild acidic content that is easy to work with and will polish up decent.
