I prefer just uner HALF full on the dipstick. The difference is between sucking in oil and smoking out the 'hood and not.....

On a 3.2 after draining, re-fill is approximately 10.5 quarts per Bentley.
I normally fill 10 quarts, start her and get her up to normal operating temperature (1/4 up from the 1st mark of the temperature guage) while still running, I then fill to middle of the dip stick marks (normally around 1/2 a quart). Check specs on your year to be absolutely certain. Over filling will yield undesired results. Never top off when cold, always when at operating temps, keep the car running to check and fill on level surface. Jim

I do not know but it is not hard to figure it out on your next oil change.
After draining the sump and tank, add 8 quarts of oil and start the car. Do not worry, with 8 quarts you will have enough on-board to safely run the car. When it is fully warmed (180 F), check your level with your dipstick. Add quarts until you reach 1/2 way between the min and max marks. I suspect you will find it will take between 9 and 11 quarts total. My 1973 (with no front cooler) requires 9 quarts to fill on an oil change.

The general answer for the later cars is 10 US quarts total capacity ( without front oil cooler) and about 13 qts if you have a front oil cooler. For the 13 qt systems, "change-out" capacity is typically 10 qts(+/-). Of this, approx 6-7 qts would come from the oil tank, and 3-4 qts from the engine casing ( if the car was recently run)...and the opposite is true if the car sat overnite before oil change out ( 6-7 from engine casing drain....and 3-4 from oil tank).
Why not just capture the old oil in a large drain pan, and pour out the pan into empty gallon milk jugs?. You have to cart away to the disposal place anyway. Whatever amount comes "out" can safelty be put "in" as new fresh oil.....no issues/no questions on amount. I usually have 2 1/2 jugs to carry away.

Hasn't been mentioned, don't know how new you are to P-car oil changes...
ONLY check the dipstick while the engine is running (idling). And, on level ground. And, up to operating temperature (180 F). Fill only to half way between F and L, too easy to have too much if you get closer to the FULL mark. |
