Help 84 Carrera - Evap box removal a B&^%h

I removed the two brackets holding the box and two plumbing lines coming into the evap. The box moves but it seems like something is holding it in the bottom. I'm wondering if it is the drain hose or vent to the cabin. Let me know how I can get this out. Thanks a bunch.

I remember having to remove the passenger carpet in the cabin. There was a small plywoodish board held by a few screws. Once that's removed, you should be able to see what needs to be removed in order to get the evap box out.

Don't give up. Be patient and don't force anything. You'll get it!

The small board is the floor-board in our '86 and is held down by one 10mm nut.

Did you remove the two clamps holding the vent, and the bowtie?

I think the drain hose may be the issue.

If it is, push the tube up from underneath the car, and pull the evap enclosure strait up.

And, why are you removing the evaporator box?

Good luck,

Gerry

You need to remove the thermostat in the pass floor area behind the floor board. This slides into the Evap so there is a tight seal. However it also acts to hold the evap box in the hole. Once you remove this, it should slide right out...

Brad,

You are right!

I missed that.

Got it guys. That was it. The resistor box for fan speed control. Reason for removal, I was recharging the system with ES12, low side pressure was too high and wouldn't take more than 8 oz after overnight vaccum. I figured expansion valve was clogged. Low side was around 80 and high side was around 160psi. Any more charge was increasing low side and vent temp wouldn't go below 75. I was afraid I would twist the copper tube holding the exp valve so I took the evap out. Looks like I'm going to bite the bullet and do some upgrades. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks, Brads911sc. I read about it a little bit. If you did, let me know your experience. I was thinking renair procooler and evaporator. I think my nippon denso compressor is good. What are your thoughts, or should I go for the whole shabang? Looks like a $1400dent.
