If you want to get in on this you better hurry. The 3 closest stores to me were already sold out. I had to drive around to 3 other stores but I have 4 cases in the garage now. Also keep in mind they limit it to 12 quarts per purchase, any mor and it is full price. The guys at the stores I went to just rang me up twice since each time I had more than 12. Also don't use your rewards card if you have one as they also limit it to 12 per person per day.

May I assume that VR 1 is OK for my car given the enthusiastic response to this sale, or must I travel with the herd and only use Brad Penn. I merely pose this question, because despite all the threads about oil, no one has posted a thread about oil YOU CAN BUY AT YOUR LOCAL FLAPS. that is worthy, VR1 is such a product, and I'd like to be able to buy oil for oil changes where I live, rather than the Front Range (although I'll admit that I'm there often).

So, VR1 Bueno? Experts, have at it. What would you use if you didn't have the hallowed Brad Penn and could only chose from the offerings at your FLAPS??

Tom,

Actually, several 20W-50 oils may be at your FLAPS. Valvoline VR1, Kendall GT, and Royal Purple leap to mind. If you go to the Harley dealership, their oil is quite good as well. If you are willing to use a 15W-40, most of the HDEO's are good as well.

Your FLAPS may even have others!

Now, if YOU insist on only using BP, then don't let me stop you.

Does it matter which grade of VR1? SAE 50, SAE 60 or 20W50?

There is plenty in all three grades at my local Autozone and am wondering which is best for '88 carrera, b/c at that price, I'm stocking up.

Thanks!

Thanks, Harry! Brad Penn is available in several locations in the Denver area. However, I spend most of my time in the mountains, with Boulder being #2. Given that I can find Valvoline VR1 easily and close to me, that's what I'm using.

Regards,

20W50 is the accepted norm....

I got mine today (12 20-50 VR1 for $27). Best deal I have seen for awhile. local Denver ripoff price for Brad Penn at $62 pales in comparsion. YMMV

I know that VR1 20w-50 is one of the recommended oils mentioned in the Ultimate Oil Thread. Went to Autozone to take advantage of the sale, and the guy behind the counter said he would have taken advantage of it too except that VR1 has too much Molybdenum in it. Is this so? Too much Moly is supposed to lead to high copper and bearing wear according to LN engineering's website (FAQs). Does anyone have a virgin analysis of VR1. The Valvoline website doesn't list Moly for VR1 at all (unless I'm reading it wrong).

Right, the product data sheet for non-synthetic VR1 from Valvoline makes no mention of molybdenum in their oil... Motorcycle guys typically avoid oils with moly or graphite additives.. and they seem to like VR1... So I'm guessing the amount of moly in the oil is negligible. And, probably the LAST guy I'd believe is the guy behind the parts counter... they hear stuff and pass it on as gospel...
