Is this pedal cluster too far gone?
I looked up getting the ^%$#$^!!! pin out and found various "oh I was dreading that but it took 2 minutes" (you all suck btw) and a few this was awful but I finally got it(s).
I've been working at this pin for 2 days, broken at least 7 new Ti bits, bent several punches, about to bury this thing in the back yard. My question is does it look to the experts to be too far gone? Am I beating a dead horse or just need to keep working at it? It seems the pin is corroded into the surrounding metal. (My MC was leaking and has eaten up the cluster and the floor to varying degrees). Please give some guidance... ![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you, Travis

That cluster looks dirty but very restorable. We pounded on the pin and tried driving it out with everything but the kitchen sink. In the end I took it to a local shop and 10 minutes and $10 dollars later all was apart in my hands. Money well spent.
Mine looked worse originally, but cleaned up and rebuilt nicely. Mike

+3 on a machine shop to hydraulic press/drill press it out. I had to re-weld mine because I whacked on it too hard.
Looks like you got the wrong bit in your drill press though.

Yah, that is a hardened steel roll pin, so no wonder your bits just broke. But the basic unit looks fine and should clean up nicely for you once you disassemble it.

Thanks, I'll try a machine shop today. I have a drill press but couldn't figure out how to secure the cluster in it so this was just with my vice and hand drill.

Definately worth rebuilding. May try a bit of heat to it, a torch propane or otherwise get it good and hot will help brake the hold the rust has on the parts. And if you are outdoors and some what brave, give it a few shots of penetrating oil while hot, Yes it may temp burst into flames but it will come apart. Btw, if a model with the mechanical brake light switch remove that prior to applying heat.

I fought mine too. Many broken bits etc. My final solution was an air chisel with the
pointed tip. Came out in about 15 seconds. |

Well, the machine shop even struck out on this. He drilled out the pin, couldn't even see the separation between the clutch pedal and the shaft. He tried several other coaxing methods apparently of pounding out the shaft (the pin was completely gone at this point. I know it's because of deteriorated bushings but it doesn't even sit at a straight angle side to side and takes a mountain of force to move the clutch pedal at all.
I'm left feeling like this has never been rebuilt and has succumbed to 35 years of welding itself to 1 solid piece, more than anything else I'm sick of being stuck on it so I've sourced a smooth functioning used one for a price I'm well willing to pay (now). Bright spot is even though it seems he wasted an hour or 2 messing with it he wouldn't take $ from me since it wasn't accomplished. When I told him I could get another working one for <$150 he h'rmphed and said "damn, do it!" (I guess say "Porsche" to some folks and they assume each piece is thousands of $ of unobtainum) Sad to not be a success story on this one item but thanks for the tips and encouragement.
