Wheel spacer questions
All, I have a few quick (and hopefully not naive) questions about wheel spacers.
I get that they will widen the track of the car, but what are the down sides? Will I need to get my car realigned if I put them on the back only (I have a 1984 3.2 with 6&7 x 16 Fuchs)? Are there brands that members agree are best? What width spacer makes the most sense if I intend to keep my 6s & 7s (vs changing to wider wheels)? Thanks!

- Depending on what width you need, they can add a lot of unsprung weight. I used to thave 32mm spacers on my '84 carrera that weighed 4lbs each.
- Some say they add stress to wheel bearings. - H&R makes a high quality, hub-centric product and can you pick used ones here fairly often

I have the Porsche turbo ones on the rear now. 21mm and they fill up the wheel wells nicely. You will have to replace the studs with 68 or 72mm ones. If you don't want to go that route, there are some (H&R) that bolt to the existing studs and have another set of studs on them for the wheels. In any case make sure there the "hubcentric" type. Porsche factory ones weigh about 1 lb each.

nineball,
Are those spacers with longer studs or are they adapters? I'd like to get them as well but I didn't see them on H&R's website Does anybody make aluminum spacers?

adapters, meaning you have to bolt these on to the existing studs and they have their own studs. they look like this:

Hmm, I only saw the spacers, do they have a part number..? I guess I didn't see the 23mm adapters.

sorry i do not. i bought a pair of adapters from another pelican a while back that were advertised as 21mm. when i got them they were 2.5" wide and useless to me so i traded them locally to another pca member for the ones on my car now.
