Sams butchered my Fuchs !!
Photos pending but it looks like a kids took a can opener and chewed into and then around in a circle on both rear rims , they didnt touch fronts thank God. Manager took photos for their insurance. The fuchs were very nice, next to 0 road rash before this, just needing a polish and now this.
What should I do. Anyone closer to Alabama than Weidmen for wheel refinishing if that is what they offer to pay for - or do I demand what from Sams ? What do I do to be fair about this - I am over being mad. Thanks Gang, JB

you mean that Wall-mart place?? I hope you weren't crazy enuff to let a place like that work on your wheels... Anyway - Harvey & Al Reed are the 2 places I know & both are in Cal. Sam should pay to air freight them over there, but both places usually have a 1-2 month long backlog. |

Lots of polishing going on at hot rod places. If you're going for a light to medium scratch repair and a straight polish, you should be good locally.
Where Harvey and Al are particularly good is making the wheels look like they did when new and anodized. Or specialty finishes. Also, their painting is perfect in finish and on the mark where it should be and not be. To just fix the outer part of the rim with a straight polish, shoot, I could do that. |

Get a quote from your closest Porsche dealer on a factory replacement to go with the refinishing quote. It will probably make the refinishing look like a bargain.

Sorry, but...if you take anything that says "Porsche" on it to Sam's Club for repair, you have no right to complain about the resultant disaster.

Great idea to solicit expert opinion on refinishing shops. I don't know the answer to your question, but please don't let Sams pick the place. Years ago a Sears messed up the rims on my Jeep Cherokee and sent them to their choice of vendors for refinishing. Looked great for a little while, then yellowed horribly, then the finish chipped off in spots.

I think it is resonable to expect that having your tires changed will not cause damage to the wheels. The modern tire machines can be operated in such a manner to leave your wheels undamaged. It might be a favor to all of us to have a lawyer take them to the cleaners if they don't fully compensate you. Remember that you won't get compensated for all the hassle. I don't feel sorry for Sam's, the machine operators should be trained and managed to complete the process per the training.

...even "specialty" car places that don't do Porsches get this wrong.... Oh...better check your undercarriage. almost *no one* knows of the proper lift points of these cars without crushing oil lines....... Oh man.......

good points... of course I avoid this because I almost never take the actual car (the P-car not recently) in, only the wheels. If you don't have a jack and stands this is difficult.
If you have the AL nuts then these will get all banged up by air wrench jockeys. I've brought my own socket in the few times when I did bring in the car. I bought steel nuts and saved the stock AL. If they don't want to install with a torque wrench try somewhere else, most places seem to not be put out of shape if you want the nuts torqued to spec. |

It's a lot safer to go to a "real" tire shop,preferably on that sells aluminum mag wheels so their personnel is aware of the value of the wheels.
I brought my Fikse FM10's to a real performance tire shop to have my Dunlop Direzzas installed and the tech mentioned to me that the beads were extremely stiff as compared to other performance tires they install.He realized how fragile and expensive those wheels were and asked for another tech to help him seat the tires ! I would have hated to see what kind of damage a regular tire place would have caused ... Only brought the wheels as i would never let anybody else jack up my car,especially a non Porsche outfit !
