cold air intake
I have a 1995 911/993. Has anyone installed a cold air intake on this car before? I can't seem to locate a search for this car anywhere. K&N doesn't seem to make one....does anyone know differently? Thanks.

I posted a reply in the 964/993 tech section.
There is some debate on whether a CAI even makes a difference on an air-cooled 911. Try a search for 'ram air" as well. Yes, I know ram air is not the sme but it does involve the intake system so you may find some useful info embedded.

Thanks Oh Haha. One other question if you don't mind; I am brand new to this forum. Is it better for me to post questions in the 911 forum or the 993 for my 1995 carrera?

Welcome to Pelican.
![]() It is better to post 993 specific questions in their forum. General questions will get more feedback in this forum, though. While most of us here own the older cars, many own a 993 or even 996/997 model 911s. Rennlist is another forum for the 993 that is great. Either way, you have found a source of knowledge on the Porsche 911 that simply can't be beat. BTW-When you get a chance, do an introduction thread and show us some pics of your car. Posting your location is optional but you'd be surprized how many Pelicans are out there. It's great to have a buddy close that can lend a hand.

There have been a lot of posts about the idea of an ambient air intake for a 911. The short answer (my opinion, certainly) is that there is no meaningful benefit. You've already got a huge blower moving ambient temp air through the engine compartment. At low idle, you'll see a spike in engine compartment temps, but that goes away when the RPMs increase. I can't think of why anyone would want more horsepower for when the engine is idling. When you press the gas, intake temps jump to ambient.

+1 with Mr. Olsen...this subject has been discussed a lot on this site...experts state there are no measurable benefits with the K&N "cold air intake", and that it probably lets in more bad particulates than an OEM filter.
About the only benefit is that it's a real room-saver for DIY's. YMMV

Also, K&N is not good at filtering. They flow a lot of air, but let in a lot of dirt.
