Is this a re-build sign?
The engine is 3.2 86 and I don't have the previous history.
Yesterday while taking pictures from under, this engine nut has what look like some kind of sealant. It's the only one that got this. Any idea? Thanks J.J. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1275349632.jpg |
Looks like the other nut has some sealant on it also. Oil tends to seep by the threads of the studs and leak externally. My 84 has 3.2 has some white sealer on it also. I wouldn't sweat it. SmileWavy

Looks like high temp RTV. Someone was trying to stop a slight leak, no big deal. When you hear a clunk and see all the engine parts in the rear view mirror, than it's time for a rebuild. Resist as long as you can, drive it.

Yep, clean up the area and see if it gets wet with oil. I would think you could always try a crush washer there (if you can find one that size) after taking it apart and getting all the gunk off, or try to reseal it yourself with new RTV.

As long as nobody painted your case red or you inadvertently found a Motor Meister receipt, I wouldn't sweat it.

Yesterday I was sweating for a different reason: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/545206-wheel-lock-problem.html Cheers J.J. |

Thanks to all...
and obviously the collective though is don't worry be :).
The RTV seem to have done it's job. As you can see from the Heat Exchanger photo, some other leaks are (were) more important. The PO was running on 20W50 Synthetic. I switched to Brad Penn and cut the seepage in half. I think I got it down to 2 leaks. One from a mechanical connection (might try to put the wrenchs on it than again maybe not) and the other one for the driver side valve cover. I'll be doing my 1st Valve Adjustment soon (got the lift, Wayne's book, the tools & 2 gasket kit) so it should get resolved. And as per James recommendation, I'll resist doing an engine job as long as I can... and I'm driving it. Probably not as much as some of you guys as Das Babe is not my DD and we got a rather short season (7 months) but in my first 4 months I managed to put 5,000Km (just about 3,000 Miles) but just in case, I'm building a "engine job" & "paint job" fund. Cheers J.J. |
The nut with RTV doesn't look stock. They were probably just trying to fix a leak and put a new locknut on it. I'd look at all the case nuts and look for damage to the flats to know if it's been apart.

Next time she is up...

Did I mentioned that getting the lift was the best acquisition since getting Das Babe itself. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1275403914.jpg |
