Porsche Crest Wheel Lock Problem

Help...

The key for the lock started to slip out on the 3 remaining wheels. They were last torque down at 90. I try with lateral pressure before turning with no luck.

The only marking on the key is a T. If I knew the brand I could try to get a new one. A friend suggest maybe a machinist could do one.

Since the lock has almost no depth, the 12 point socket trick (which I did successfully on my wife Civic) would probably not work. To make thing worse the nut are about 5" into the rim with almost no clearance.

The only + is that the rims are mounted on spacer so I could take the wheel off if it help, like drilling the stud.

Thanks

J.J.

Try wetting the tool and dipping it in Comet Cleaner (old school abrasive bathroom type cleaner) and putting it into the lugs. It may just tighten it up enough to be able to get them off.

What are you doing up so early, shoveling snow???

Yes I'll try that as well as filling the bump that the round off produce on the flat part of the lock.

Cheers

The only good thing about getting snow at this time of year is that it doesn't stick around long!
It is a crazy place to live.
My wife is off to a conference in Montreal today so I was up to see her off.

I file the "bump" away, jack the car to waist level, cleaned the lock with a dental pick, dip the wet key in comet and give it a shot.

I was able to put a lot a lateral pressure, it did not slip but I could not move it.

So despite best judgment and contrary advise from week-end mechanic, I decided to get the impact driver out and go for it at 100 psi. While it did not slip it did not move.

So the only thing left to do was... increase to 125 psi and go for maximum smoke. After 5 seconds it finally came out. Did the same on the 2 other one and they came out. What a relieve and no, they are not going back on since I got only 5" clearance, good lock with jacking the car. If you want them, they are free and I'll pay the Canada Post fee.

So, I got Guinness and Tuborg or whatever you like to drink. If you leave tonight and don't come across any Alberta snow storm, you should be here Tuesday for dinner time (3553km)

Thanks J.J.

Hey JJ, glad it worked out!
My sister and her family is in Ottawa, so maybe we will cross paths for a beer one day, just not Tuesday!!
If you have kids, check out their store in Ottawa, Playvalue. (shameless plug...)
Cheers,

There will alway be a cold beer ready for you.

Is that Playvalue off Carling Ave (drive by everyday unfortunately not in Das babe)?

What is your sister first name?

Cheers

I had the same locks and similar problem on my '86. I found that the key was walking out of the recesses as I turned the wrench, making if impossible to break free. An air gun, deftly applied by a local P-car mechanic, took it of with no problem. I promptly order 4 standard lug nuts to replace the locks.

Porsche Crest I don't need them...

Mike

Beside the fact that the car is so low that "good luck with jacking the car", these are Borbet repro so if they get stolen, I'll get real one...

Next of getting Das Babe, getting the scissor lift was the best investment.

Stop by tonight to see your sister. Boy they did not have store like this when I was a kid.

She told me the story about having their "poor man" Porsche having been stolen from Mark's dealership while there for repair. She could not remember the model but by the description it's sounded like a 914.

Looking forward to your next stop over in Ottawa.

Cheers

J.J.

That's right it was a mint 2.0 914. Stolen off the lot when it was in for service.
I never had a chance to drive it!
That is quite a store, isn't it? I could spend hours in there and that was before my son was born!
Cheers,
