Caliper rebuild
Hi guys
So, I removed the calipers from the car. Removed the brake lines I was planning on replacing and disassembled the calipers with the 'Grease Gun Method'. It went very well, but now I have grease in my calipers (yep, I did see that one coming). What's the best way and /or product to get them clean again ? Thanks ! |

Any good de-greasing solvent will work, like brake cleaner. If you have access to a parts washer then use that, if not clean off all excess grease with paper towels and then hit it with the degreaser and wipe clean.

Thanks for the feedback.
Any pointers on how to remove the grease from the 'internal lines' in the caliper ? Or would cleaning everything up with brake cleaner and then flushing the system with brake fluid do the trick ? |

You might try blowing compressed air through the bleed valve on one half and the inlet pipe hole on the other half. ( remove the bleed valve) Make sure you use brake clean with a tube to spray into each orifice first and see if you have flow, after that hit it with compressed air.
You didn't mention what type of car or caliper and I was thinking monoblock calipers with a connector line as the passage between the two. I now gather you have the earlier SC or Carrera style caliper. Should be no problem to clean them as mentioned. For future rebuilds, the compressed air method works great if you use a wedge of wood between the pucks and ease them out or the messy (but less messy than grease) is just use the brake fluid (pads removed) to push out the pistons in place.
