Which belt for my set-up?
Well I had hoped that my first post would be with pictures of my car out on the road and the story of how I aquired it, but that is not happening yet.
I have a 1972 911T with a 1978 911SC 3.0 installed. It has the 1972 alternator and fan installed on the 3.0. I noticed that the alt. pulley nut was only on about 1/2 way and it had an odd sized belt. Apparently what I have is the 78 SC large crank pulley, a good thing from what I read, and the large 72 alternator pulley, 95mm? The previous owner had 11 shims installed, which is why the nut was not on all of the way. Does anyone have any idea what belt this set-up will take? I had ordered both the 10x710 and 10x725 from our host, and neither one is even close. The belt that is on there is a NAPA that has 738 in the belt #s, but it will be to short with the proper amount of shims. I search the forums every day and this place has provided a ton of help with my project already. Thanks to all. 1972 911T (w/ 1978 SC 3.0, webers) |

There is only a couple belts that our host sells, get one of each and find the one that works the best for your 'set up', return the ones you don't need, and note what size/part number in the owners manual.

That's what I thought also. I bought all of the sizes that our host sells, and none of them are long enough. I'm sure that I'm not the only one with a 3.0 and the original alt./fan set-up and was hoping that someone could help with the size that they are using. I have the original 2.4 out of the car, but from what I read, putting on the smaller crank pulley has me going backwards as far as cooling. I live at 6200 feet in Colorado, and reading what Grady has to say about the early days and putting the SC crank pulley on, I don't want to change that. I know that a smaller fan pulley would increase fan speed, but didn't want to have to go thru that. I Guess that I'll head to AutoZone and see what they have in the way of a 9.5x750? I'm open for other suggestions.
