Anyone have a photo of a worn front break Pad?

My 911SC breaks just started squealing, they're 25K old on the front and unidentifiable in the rear. Fronts still look to have 4 mil left and 5 mil in the rears. I was hoping someone had a photo of what a truly worn out pad looked like, aren't they good till about 2 mil? Any input as to why they are squealing would be great... still a rookie. Thanks

Here's my .02
If the front brakes are down to 4 mil I'd replace them. Obtainable mileage from a set of brake pads depends upon driving style and whether or not you drive in city traffic or on the open Hwy.
If you try to get the pads down to 2 mil and misjudge the pad wear you could easily start to wear the rotor.
And speaking of rotors you should check the thickness of your rotors as well.
Often breaks squeal because metal from the pads builds up on the rotor and that gives you your squeal.
If you are uncertain as to how many miles are on the brake pads/rotor, I'd replace both as well as the wheel bearings.

That works for me. Thanks for sharing your .02's.

P.S. I saw a lime green 911RS crossing the GG Bridge when I was 4. That was my start date, and I still want an RS.

Thanks again!

Worn SC Brake Pads

I use these pics to remind a friend about finesse in braking.... or the lack thereof.

We still do not know how he could have not known something was wrong!!

I agree with what was said about low pads. Replace them when the material is getting low. Seen to many with the material breaking up and lots of thickness left. Pads are cheap. Not to be messed with.

General rule of thumb for street use is when the pad material is reduced to a thickness equal to the backing plate thickness, it's time to replace. But you aren't at a huge risk if you procrastinate and do it when you get around to it.

Track rule (lapping day) is pads that are 2mm thick are done and should not be used. Why? Because before the end of a session, your pads can end up looking like what Steve posted!!! Typically as the pad gets thinner it wears faster due to less heat dissipation ability by the pad

Wow, that guy really did not want to stop driving his 911, I don't know whether to blame him or congratulate him. Thanks for sharing!

Brake Pads

Yes, he was driving it on the track and came in saying there was a weird noise. Mouths gaping when looking at the pads and rotors. Both sides were like this.

He is damn lucky. A good driver, and we give him grief about finesse as well as feel. He will twist a bolt until it snaps. Just has no ability to know when to stop turning.

It amazes me to watch. Get a good laugh at times.
