Shifter for 915 trans.
We are in process of building a 74 911 IROC RSR and ready to pull the plug for a shifter. Were have a fresh race ready 2.7 and upgraded to a 79 aluminum case 915 gearbox. I would like to know what shifter you guy's are using and why you chose that specific Mfg. Right now I'm looking at a Protechnik lock out kit but some of the complete replacement shifters look good too.
Thanks in advance for your input in helping me make my decision. (SMR) ScreamingManRacing ![]() |

To keep the IROC appearance, a factory short shifter would be appropriate.
If you want a shifter that makes shifting the 915 box much better and appearance isn't an issue go with WEVO. A Hargett setup will move the shifter up and back but at the expense of the factory look. There is much debate on which of the aftermarket shifters are the "best". A search will yield tons of info. Try the words "short shifter". That looks like a fun project. Be sure to show us the finished car.

![]() Both the Wevo and the Hargett are good, it really depends on your personal preference. I like the Wevo for a street/track combo but the Hargett for a real track-only car like this one posted a while ago on this board. ![]() Len ![]() |

If money is little object, the Hargett looks good, although (unless Hargett has done this already) it should help to run a brace from the right front side down to the tunnel.
If money is an object, the Seine Systems with the factory short shift is really a great improvement over stock, and does what the more expensive systems do - centers the shifter side to side in the 3/4 plane. Every race car should have a shifter which does this, of whatever brand. The least expensive fix to the coupler is tight round holed bushings. Takes all the unneeded fore and aft slop out. |

The Seine was the BEST $150 I have ever Spent on my 911. With a Factory SHort SHift the total spent is $300 and you will look like the Factory. It is exciting just to look at your car.

WEVO. I put a Hargett in a G50 converted 930 and loved it but it required a LOT more work to get installed. We run WEVO in all our race cars and love it..
