Anyone heard of Monty?
Has anyone ever heard of Monty mufflers? It is the only stainless 2-in 2-out system I have seen, but is big $$$. See the link:

I've seen their ads for some years but I don't know anything about them.
Their ads usually show their product on some gawdawful-looking aero-turbo something or other. I don't know if that means they're just about looks or if they're after deep-pocketed RICErs (I guess that's redundant). Have them send you some data for comparison. It's possible they're offering a high quality product at a reasonable price.

I had a 2in/2out Monty with SSIs for a period of time. My "outs", 4 inch dia, were at the sides of the muffler, i.e., one side used the stock cut out under the bumper - had to cut the sheet metal for the right side. -
The stainless steel and construction was very high quality but with those 4 inch outs, the noise level was a too high. - I am now running a 2in/1out Dansk with the SSIs - Although the muffler "looks stock, it has a very unique sound that turns heads - - louder than stock but quietier than the Monty. I really like it! - Chuck - |

Monty mufflers are made in Australia - Melbourne actually. Construction and materials on a par with the best. They tend towards the louder end of the available range. Price in Australia is around half the listed price from the US distributor. If you are really interested, there are a few Pelican listers from Melbourne who might be interested in buying one for you in Melbourne and shipping it over. The shipping cost will be nothing compared to the US$500 markup.

Monty SHOULD have a website - http://www.monty.com.au
It doesn't seem to be working. I wasn't aware they made mufflers that looked like the factory sport muffler (like the Aase pic). I must investigate further

I also "had" a Monty once. Two inlets being fed from a 3.2 Motronic thru SSI's, and one 4" out. Looked great, sounded bad.... really bad. The workmanship is very nice though especially when hooked up to the SSI's. Ended up selling it to someone who actually liked it. They are quite pricey, mine running $600+ (and this was 7-8 yrs ago). I went back to a stock factory muffler. -doug

Almost bought a Monty....that is until I heard one on another car. Too loud and too raspy for my tastes. Bought a GHL (from Pelican) and have been happy ever since.

Tom, putting a Monty on an early MFI 911 will cause problems of rough running on part throttle - they seem to work OK on the CIS and Motronic cars.

Dansk also makes a 2 in/2out stainless muffler which I mated to SSI's on my 79SC. Excellent quality. Has 3" outlets but I think they are also available in 4". 3" is loud but not too bad if you don't stand on it. Once I cranked it at the store and simultaneously applied gas and it set off car alarms two cars over.

Monty is on my shory term dream list. Have not heard them on many 911. On the few diff. engines I have heard they are "nice". Wonder how the SC model will look on my stock 77 911s. I believe the SC mod. will sit further up under body. Not sure, don't know much about it. I have great exh. system in the oven. Could be more than great. Could be 911 neurotic passion being expressed through Freud's theorys on a wild orifice. ....
When JWW leaves a phone number, what does it mean besides doing me a favor. Could mean that the phone number will solve any dilemma I might have about SC Monty [ I think there is a difference w/'77] JWW's threads are becomming uncanny. He predicted my thread. Wellll, Thank You for your consideration.

I actually live in Melbourne, Australia
I called regarding a Monty for my 930 early last year and the price was AU$1200 (Aus Dollars approx U$ 0.51) for a 3" muffler. An OEM muffler here is AU$2600 plus fitting... They did specify that I purchase at my own risk regarding the police pulling me over for noise. I am puzzled why their web site is down Apart from the noise I believe they are good units. They also make Ferrari pipes. Cheers Adam

My Boss has twin Monty Mufflers on his 993 Carrera S. The exhaust note is thick, deep and raspy. It's quite loud and tends to rumble a bit at highway speeds, but he loves it.
I have a Monty muffler, but I don't have SSIs to bolt it onto... To me, they sound fantastic, but I have heard about "flat-spot" problems with early cars. They've got a very good reputation here in Melbourne.

Another stainless 2in 2out choice
FVD makes stainless stuff (sorry Pelican).
FVD is supposed to be one of the best European outfits. That's just what I read from some other Swiss fella on Rennlist. I have no experience with their stuff. http://www.fvd-usa.com/catalog/sound_911/index.html
