Sold My 78SC

Sold my 78SC a few weeks ago. I didn’t want a garage queen so I had used the car as a daily driver for the last ten years. Car never let me down on the road except for a broken front torsion bar.

Why did I sell? The 911 does many things very well but many other things rather poorly. On the right road, with no traffic, on a sunny day it’s great, but those conditions rarely happen in real life. The poor cold and wet capabilities, bad fuel economy, lack of modern safety systems, and lack of people/cargo space eventually overcame the thrill in those rare ideal conditions. It’s now out of my system.

Why sell the 911?

Here is an idea instead of selling your 911 buy a inexpensive daily driver...hello have you learned nothing after all those posts?

Someone's trash is someone else's treasure. I am sure the new owner will be happy with it. You gotta love what you drive!

Sorry to say but looks like he's not a Porsche person. You gotta love these cars or else... I think.

Not sure how you ended up with a 78 911 as a daily driver if you were looking for people and cargo room, and modern safety sytems - but I wouldn't call those limitations of a porsche. Kind of like saying that I am over my mini van because it just doesn't track well. Good luck in your search for your next vehicle. Maybe we will see you in the Panamera forum?

I made this post and I'm surprised at the amount of hate that is expressed in the comments.

First of all you are posting in a technical forum!!!!!!!! This is typically where people come to seek technical help not sympathy. Secondly, you are not getting any sympathy because you obviously do not possess the passion for Porsche that most people have on this forum.Thirdly, You purchased a 911 for all the wrong reasons in the first place!!!!!! So , not much love ......sorry

it's not hate, more like folks are bummed out that you couldn't find a solution and keep the car.

I am amazed at the lack of creativity and resourcefulness on your part.

I mean, you coulda kept the P-car and supplemented it with this:

1995 Trans Sport mini van

Only $1000k and it comes with heat and plenty of passenger space. I like the red, too. Add in another 10-20mph at top speed with that color.

Good luck!

Hate? WTF/ What's the point of your post? The poor cold and wet capabilities, bad fuel economy, lack of modern safety systems, and lack of people/cargo space eventually overcame the thrill in those rare ideal conditions. It’s now out of my system.
It was a 1978 car! It's a sports car!

If it was out of your system why even bother to head back here and post.

Now you can go back to your buddies and tell them your glad not be associated with "those" pricks anymore...

of course, half these guys would drop what they are doing, drive across town to help you with a problem with your small, unsafe, fuel guzzling, cramped, reliable sports car... but nobody mentions that.

911 vs daily driver

With the purchase of a daily driver(which most classic car insurance policies require anyway) the problem is solved.

My problem is I have have been driving the Targa more then the VW DD to work and on the weekends.
I might have to get a battery tender for the Jetta

Even the kids prefer to be crammed in the Targa

No problems in the cold, SSI's crank out more then enough heat and defrost works too.
