Our cars (3.2)Low Emission Vehicles?

Had my new 88 inspected in NJ and the tech did the emissions test twice and called the other mechanics over: My car registered a .02 on the C02 test (.9 is passing). He couldn't believe a 14 year old car could register that low.. Is the tech just a moron, or are these cars really clean?
Thanks!
Jordan

That is OK, that is what my 84 Carrera did last test. Almost zero emission. Low on HC too.

According to legend, a healthy SC can pass emissions with a test pipe instead of a CAT. I once had a VW Rabbit tested that was emitting NO unburned hydrocarbons at the tail pipe. NONE. Zero.

Have to love that Bosch CIS fuel injection, hehe.

I had a Toyota pickup that passed California emissions without a functioning cat. No problem at all, and it was carbureted and wasn't running all that well.

Well ... many, many orbits of this orb about the sun ago, Car and Driver tested an early '50's Hudson and it passed what I recall were the 1972 emmisions requirements. The exotic mixture-control system was a single-barrel carburetor with a manual choke!

Ditto on the emissions test in the smog Nazi state..(CA..Made me want to go hug a tree!) Had to do the roller test last time and tech that did it was amazed. Said he has many new vehicles that don't come close to what mine registered. Not bad for something built in 78 (79 year model)!

Howie:

As a Jew who has lost many family members to the concentration camps, I become quite irritated when someone trivializes the word "Nazi". Afterall, California smog regs can't be compared to what the Nazis did. I know you probably didn't mean anything, but just wanted to highten your sensitivity to this issue.
Thanks,
Ilan
