Hi - I have an early 2.4 litre CIS engined car with a hand throttle. It has a vacuum limiter fitted but no aux air regulator.
I want to get rid of the hand throttle and fit an aux. air regulator to allow the engine to tick over when cold. I would prefer to fit an air regulator that works by engine heat, to avoid having to go electrical . Is there anything available - maybe from another bosch system? Has anyone done this conversion? If so what parts did you use? Thanks - Maurice (UK) |

They need both engine heat and 12V to work. No such animal that operates on engine heat alone. Easiest way to go would be to fit a complete system from a '76 or later CIS. Cheers, Joe |

It sounds like something may be amiss with your original set up which, IMO, is preferred to the later "automatic" warm up components found on 76 and later cars. When you lift the hand throttle to full height, it not only opens the throttle slightly, it also opens a micro switch which allows the cold start valve to inject fuel when the engine is cranked resulting in easy cold starts. If you are having difficulty starting cold, the problem may be in the micro switch, cold start valve, or wiring to same. Tracking down the culprit would be much simpler and cheaper than replacing you current CIS system with a later version.

Have just bought a new Bosch aux air regulator part no. 0208-140-171 and fitted it to my 73 2.4 CIS engine, which has cured my cold engine idle problem. But when the engine is hot the idle speed stays high. (If I pinch the hose to the aux. air regulator the engine drops to normal idle speed.)
I took it off again and tested it on the bench; the valve seems to close OK (I can't see any daylight through it) but I can still blow air through it when its in the closed position. Does this mean the valve is faulty, or should it still allow air through when in the closed position? Cheers, Maurice (UK) |
