Decklid Latch Stuck! Now What?

Ugg… what a weekend. Had the decklid removed to work on the engine and after re-installing, this latch pin is now out of alignment. I closed the lid and when I went to release it…. A small pop and then nothing. Somehow the latch pin is stuck on the latch and I’ve tried giggling/pulling/twisting the lid every way possible and still now luck.

Anybody ever have this happen? Any way to get her open again without doing damage?

did you try moving the lid with the release pulled all the way out? i used a large pair of pliers putting the handle between the pull knob and the body. then i pushed on the lid in various directions, quite hard at some points, until it released. i was applying pressure in two directions, pushing both down and then left/right/up/down at the same time. i spent a good 15 mins doing that because the only alternative is to drill a hole below it to get up to move the release, and i really did not want to do that.

there are tons of threads on this topic here. i know i read at least 10-15 when it happened to me.

This is no laughing matter!

But like said above, do a search. This has happened to a lot of people, and many have posted various ways they have gotten it undone.

It happened to me last summer. I did a search on here and found quite a few suggestions. What worked was using wire around the pin and pulled it to the side to get it to release. I hope that helps. Good luck.

Pull the latch handle in the door jamb all the way out, put a pair of Vise Grips on the cable against the jamb to keep it out.

The do the above suggestions.

(This thread just reminded me that I still need to work on properly aligning that pin - I just got it close and left it alone.)

To answer the original poster's question - When this happened to me last month, I just had someone pull up on the decklid while I pulled out the release handle in the door jamb. The decklid came up without too much effort.
