I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. I have guys in pick up trucks, small Hondas with obnoxious mufflers, and everything else with wheels revving their engines when I come to a stoplight. Sheesh! I have learned to just ignore it.

which cars?

stock mini against a 911? Turbo? GT2?

Why do I have the feeling this is the introduction of some >$50K super-mini.

It's been done: Porsche wins...(note: the "classic" mini is sporting a Honda VTech motor)...

Hey folks this is really getting play from MINI and look at MINI USA | Facebook

this is MINI advertising at its BEST ...

Some of you may know that I am / was very involved in the MINI world.
My '03 track car pushed 262 wheel HP and was a serious threat.
On the Auto-X circuit I ran SM (Mainly because of MANY mods.)
Also ran in Solo 1 and would often be in top 3
I am a Phil Wicks instructor (google that for an interesting read)
In the Phil Wicks Solo 1 .. Wyvern Motorsports were 2nd, 3rd, & 4th

That being said MINIs come in a wide range ... yes some are pink and well "cute" while others are nothing to laugh at.

MINI USA is pushing this in conjunction with MINI MTTS (Mini Takes The States) I have done that or legs of it several times.

#1 this is MINI advertising.
The vehicles really are very different and a closer match really would be a Subaru or Mitsu . BUT MINI wants to have its name associated with Porsche think of it,
If this does happen ..

If Porsche does not accept ... then they would say Porsche is scared.
If the loose (they could still be very close...) and prove that they can take on Porsche (at a fraction of cost).
If they win ... well they win.

WAY Motorworks is campaigning to rep MINI ... they are FAST.

The MINI community is expecting Porsche (US) to do and say exactly what is posted here.

I remember in the 70s at the 24 hours on ice in Chamonix, France where a Peugeot 104s beat the crap of a 911 Turbo. The rear wheel turbo 911 had too much power on the wrong axle and the FWD peugeot was running circles around the Porsche.
I guess each car had a purpose, and the Porsche was at a disadvantage, fishtailing in every turn. The outcome would have been way different on a track with some long stretches...

I think it's fantastic! This might be the kick in the pants the Porsche needs to get back to its roots and remember what this is all about - designing great sports cars that out perform the pants off of others.

Very nice response from Porsche. Took the steam right out of Mini's sails. Well done.

I beg to differ. I laugh/point every time I see a male driving one.

Kinda like the old Honda retort: "Racing in a Honda is like competing in the Special Olympics...even if you win, you're still retarded".

Bring it on Mr. Mini. Let's throw a GT out there and see what happens.

Mini should fire their ad agency. In order to keep the account happy, they did what all ad agencies have aways done when they're in trouble: Put the client CEO on camera. It's sappy, bloviating, boring, tedious crap like this that gives advertising a bad name. I mean, come on, is that the best the ad bozos can burp up in a bad economy? Hoping to get some cheap, blue-chip ruboff by using Porsche's name in vain? Don't settle for such lame, half-bakred ideas, Mini. Put the account up for review tomorrow.

Wait a minute...hold it...yes, I have an idea for a Mini tag line:
Speed kills. Buy a Mini and live forever.

Or maybe:
Mini. The car for people who don't like cars.

Or what about.
Mini. A silly little car for silly little people.

Or how about:
Mini. Sorta like a Porsche, just slower and uglier.
