XJS is a pretty car. But if you lease her an XK8, she'll have fewer problems.

Problem is she is an unstoppable force. She does not like the looks of the new ones and prefers the looks of the 95 (last year I think of that body style). Fortunately she wants the 6cyl, 4.0 litre, 5 speed, convertible. It has 20K miles on it. Ford had minimal influence at that point, just enough to make it more reliable not enough to mess with the looks. Still I would prefer the 328ic or even the Saab 9-3

. . . and when it comes to your Porsche 911 are we to believe you are a rational stoppable force?

You mean the "flat hood" body style: the one without the nice rounded headlight runbacks from the headlights along the hood?

She'll get a good deal on that car. They are not highly sought-after.

I don't know a lot about the XJ models, but I thought they pretty much all had some GM based 3spd auto slushbox, aside from a very small handful of early models (late seventies). I'd like to see a stick edition. That might be a neat car to hold onto. Again, I don't know if any of them are "highly sought after", but then again, it was produced for nearly two decades and certainly is a recognizable Jaguar. Much more character, IMHO, than a common BMW 3 series, unless it's the M ragtop.

I'm still waiting on the chance to buy an all original, one owner E type with 9k miles on it. I used to deliver newspapers to it's owner and recently bought a Volvo P1800 from him. Jags are loved by a different breed, I sense, than the P cars.

I can't see many people smoking a pipe and driving an RSR, but a Jag...

Good luck!

I also did not think they made a 5 speed but it does exist
Agree, I am also an unstoppable force regarding the 911(which I bought FOR HER but she did not want), I may have already known that in the back of my devious mind
It is a great looking car but dare I say it here....its definitely a chick car...flame away

I think Roland pointed out in a recent thread that F.A. Porsche (Butzi?) drove a Jag and a Range Rover. When Porsche was offered a chance to do the redesign on the 3-series XJ, he reputedly turned it down, saying there wasn't anything that could be done to make it look better. Pininfarina got the job instead, and proved him wrong as they produced the best looking (in this series-3 owner's opinion) XJ6 of the bunch.

Another argument in favor of the earlier Jags (go for 85 or later) is that they can be had for a song, now. There value is probably as low as it's ever going to be.

I believe that there is a 5 or 6 speed manual tranny that's aftermarket, and will cost you quite a bit more than the car you put it in.

I don't know if the manual in the one she was looking at was aftermarket or not. Its a 94 with the 6cyl, only had about 20K on it. It sold yesterday But she's like a bloodhound and now she's sniffing around a 95 but its automatic which she thinks are for wimps. She's always been a hard core Saab gal so I think she might settle on a 99 900s convertible which is easy to get in a manual. The 95 Jag is a beautiful car also.
