fuchs similarity
How close are the fuchs on early to mid 80's 944's to those on 911's?

I assume you are not comparing early 911 Fuchs to later ones
Only the offset on the 8 inch Fuchs is different for the 944 and 911. The 7 inch Fuchs are identical for both. They only made Fuchs in 16x7 and 16X8 for the 944, nothing else. (For 911's they made 6 inch wide and 9 inch wide as well.) The looks are identical for both 944 and 911, AFAIK. usefull link: 944racing

There is actually a slight difference in appearance of the 951 part number Fuchs vs. the 911, related to the additional brake caliper overhang clearance needed for the 951. The spokes are positioned slightly outboard in the centers of the forging, so the outer flange connecting the center to the dropwell is angled differently, and the lug nut holes are more deeply countersunk. You have to look closely to notice the difference.
