Alternator Shroud and Impeller material
Hi All,
Just related to my previous alternator removal due to a separate problem, I found a couple of cracks around the Inlet Guide vanes of the Alternator support shroud. My question is; Is the shroud made out of Aluminium, or some other form of Alloy. I ask this as i am hoping to see whether any repairs are applicable. My thinking is, if the material is out of aluminium, there is a shop here which does aluminium welds, and maybe they could help restore it. With alloys, i doubt anything could be done anyway. Ideas appreciated gang. |

Mine was magnesium. I had a shop that said they could weld mag., they could not. I ended up getting a new aluminum one.

If it's stock, it's magnesium.
