69' 911 S and/or 73' 2.7 RS BOSCH MFI Pump?

I found this in my garage from several years ago.

I understand that it is a 69' 911S BOSCH MFI pump, but did not know and now trying to confirm that it was also used by the 73' 2.7 RS.

Does this sound right? If so, are the space cams, etc. slightly different between the two models since the displacement is much larger in the 1973 2.7 liter RS than a 1969 2.0 liter 911 S?

Any information/details will be appreciated. For more photos, go here 1969 Porsche 911 S 2.0 Liter BOSCH Mechanical Fuel Injection Pump Photo Gallery by slidevalve911rsr at pbase.com

Thanks!

Armando

That is a one-year only 1969 911S MFI pump. It has both the shut-off solenoid for stopping fuel flow while engine braking and the starting fuel enrichment solenoid for cold-start. The later pumps, 1973 RS included, do not have the start solenoid. Their cold start is only from squirting fuel into the air box or into the stacks through separate nozzles fed from the fuel filter console.

A 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 spec pump will have the part number ending in "019", not your "005".

The space cams for every variation of displacement and T/E/S spec are all quite specific and different. A Carrera RS cam will deliver significantly more fuel in ceratin areas but less in others. You can tune a pump with most any cam in it to deliver enough fuel at peak torque/power but will suffer from richness and poor running/throttle response in many areas of the powerband such as low revs.

Mark Jung "356RS" and Jeff Higgins are two people on this board who can give you more details.

Gee, I wish I could "find" parts as stunningly clean, rare, and working as well as that!

Armando,
You are one of the only guys I know who could "find" something so rare and unique just sitting around his garage.

Here's a link to the Jeff Higgins thread that will give you a good education in pumps and their function:

Thank you Max and Matt for your feedback and information, very much appreciated.

UPDATE - After paying a call to our friend "Gus" at PFI, he confirmed the Porsche factory did produced two different versions of the 1969 911S MFI pump, the "early" 001, and the improved "late" 005 designation. The early 001 pumps, as the first available, had some fuel metering issues with 'back-firing" as one of the symptoms the factory was trying to correct. The Porsche factory while in the process of solving the injection problems designed no less than 3 different space-cams for the 001 version of this pump. Ultimately, the final design improvements culminated in what we now know as the 'late' 005 version of this pump (the one I found in my garage).

Anyone with a 69' 911 S early 001 version of the MFI pump, should have it upgraded to the improved specs of the 005. Regarding the question I had about the compatibility, etc. of the 73' 2.7 RS MFI pump, per Gus, they're not even close!

I knew I had a 'special' pump laying around in a box for years, but I couldn't remember exactly what it was. I suppose I "cherry-picked" all my Porsche parts early on, fortunately for me, and grateful for those who offer me their "guidance" at the time.

Anyone planning to restore a 69' 911 S??? ; )

Not only is the space cam different between the early and late 69S pump, there are also some differences in the compensation levers and thermostat setup
