$250 father's day bill
My Porsche suffered it's first damage in well over five years...
![]() Sunday my daughter helped me bleed the brakes on the '88. When we finished, she got out and slammed the door. (Twelve-year-olds can't close any door without slamming.) The corner of the window frame caught the jack handle, which smacked into the quarter panel. A nice size dent resulted. This morning I took the car to my preferred shop The estimate was $250 to spot the repair and blend it into the quarter. Based on prior experience with their work, it will only be discernable to me. I'll save the full repaint for a future date. ![]()

At least she didn't have her fingers in it.
I cringe each time my kids insist on closing the car doors themselves. My Dad had a saying(one of many) when one of use kids would slam the car door."There's already a door on this side!" I'm pretty sure we followed that up with rolled eyes. ![]() Glad to hear the damage was nil. It's great that your girl wants to help out in the garage.

Sorry to hear about the ding. I'd be willing to bet you won't forget this father's day and when you do remember it you won't think about the ding as much as you will the time spent with your daughter.

many times I've cringed ( on the inside ) as my daughters banged the car with a wrench I just asked them to pass me, or stepped on my 45 year old recaro buckets with their dirty shoes, or dragged the hose over the fender while helping me wash it, and so on......
point is, they're now 12 and 15 and LOVE my cars, riding them, helping me with them, whatever. if my reaction to all those incidents had been different, they would probably now hate my cars and everything to do with them. on father's day I sat in a lawnchair and watched the two of them wash my car for me. not the way I would do it, but they had FUN. a couple of weeks ago my oldest went with me on a day long, 500 mile porsche run. no radio, no a/c, loud motor, hot day, .....and she loved every minute of it. FWIW. |

Agree with all the above. To simply have my 12 YO daughter willingly help me with a car would have been wonderful. $250 to encourage that is a very small price, indeed.
