Allure of the Automobile at the High Museum Atlanta, GA

So the high museum starts its exhibit on some rare automobiles on March 21st. I was lucky enough to get in the parade and private show before it opens to the general public.
Is anyone else on the boards in the parade and show?
Should be a good show, couple of unique Porsche's in the exhibit.
Here are the cars that are featured:
• 1933 Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow
• 1934 Packard Twelve Runabout Speedster, formerly owned by Clark Gable
• 1935 Duesenberg JN Roadster, formerly owned by Clark Gable
• 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster
• 1937 Bugatti Type 57S Atalante Coupe
• 1937 Delage D8-120S, Surbaisse, formerly owned by Louis Delage
• 1937 Hispano-Suiza H-6C "Xenia" Coupe
• 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C2900B Touring Berlinetta
• 1938/39 Porsche Type 64 Coupe replica
• 1953 Porsche 550 Le Mans/La Carrera Panamerica Coupe
• 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SLR (W 196-S)
• 1957 Jaguar XKSS Roadster, formerly owned by Steve McQueen
• 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato
• 1961 Ferrari 250 Short-Wheelbase Berlinetta, "SEFAC Hot Rod"
• 1948 Tucker Model 48 Torpedo
• 1954 Dodge Firearrow III Concept Coupe
• 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham
• 1959 Chevrolet Corvette "Bill Mitchell" Stingray Prototype

Should get my car back tomorrow from a 4 month exterior overhaul so looking forward to bringing out some Porsche pride! Stephen

Don't know who all is going to the parade, but there has been some buzz about it on the board, we plan on doing a group visit at some point.
Porsche that started it all Type 64

I signed up for the parade, but not sure I made the cut (open only to the first 100 cars). Either way, I plan on making my way downtown while the display is there.

They passed out a flyer for the show at the Avenue Car Show last sunday. Nice discount coupon too. I thought Porsche's first "356 Prototype" was going to be on display as well.

I'll be attending the opening night.

They have added a couple more cars including a locally owned Lister Jaguar race car.

Porsche is one of the premier sponsors of the event.

Are you in charge of distributing the drinks?

I signed up for the parade but they said there is a waiting list. They said the response has completely caught them off guard and a ton of people have tried to register. Hopefully they will increase the number of cars to more than 100. Is there anything special going on opening night? I was going to surprise my wife with the parade thing (yes, she loves this stuff), but had to fess up since I did not get in fast enough. I still got the brownie points!!! Maybe I could surprise her at least with an evening out to opening night.

It was a little weird, I received an e-mail that I didn't make the cut and then one that I did. I actually decided to bring my dad rather than my wife, she was cool with it since he is a pretty big car buff.
Hopefully they will surprise us with some local cars.
I will be interested to see what other local cars are there for the parade, hoping to catch a Bugatti Veyron if someone in ATL owns one.

A couple months ago the High was running a deal for a yearly family membership (with 2 guest passes) - $67 - as I was planning on going to the DaVinci expo with visiting family and the Allure exhibit, it was a no brainer and has saved $$.
Members get to see the exhibit starting 3/17 - pretty cool!

I usually try to go in decent weather - next month it will be the second Sunday - I'm in Old Norcross and Carnutzzz lives just around the corner - we caravan when he gets up in time (he's a single guy) - we sometimes meet up with mthomas58 along the way as well as a friend with BMWs.
Drop me a line.
Tom

The event was great and well organized! We had a helicopter and lots of Atlanta policemen on motorcycles escort us up Peachtree and it certainly seemed that there were more than 100 Porsches! What a sight!

I attended the opening of the event. Here is the 1953 Porsche 550 and the 64:

I enjoyed a long discussion with Achim Stejskal (the Director of the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart).

I am pictured on the left while Achim is on my right. I guess it takes a Director to look good after crawling under a 550? I should have asked my wife to re-arrange my clothing?

Yet, he was more interested in my 1973 911 than his 1953 550? He was probably just being a nice guy?

I did volunteer to take his job away from him.

Here are a couple more shots of the Porsches inside the exhibit and a 2010 GT3RS that was at the Governor's Mansion prior to the parade.

You are much more organized than myself, I meant to bring a camera...anyways it was a great show and enjoyable time. Some beautiful cars at the show.
