shipping recommendation

I may be shipping a car from LA to St. Louis (2000 miles). What is the expected cost of this service?

The only on-line quote I could get was $807 which sounds really high.

Are there any carriers I should look at in particular?

Its been a couple of years, but that price seems about average, based on distance. I would highly recommend shopping on quality and reputation, not merely price, when looking for a carrier. If the car is damaged, saving a few hundred bucks will seem trivial.

Try the following:
Passport Transport
Intercity Lines

Good luck,
Tim

I recomend Intercity. They shipped my Porsche from California to Indiana. They did a great job and kept in touch all the way. They are very truely professionals.

I used Allen Auto Transport a few years ago to ship my 911 from Texas to MA. 750.00.
They were ok, except 3 months later I found a 1" hole in the floor from the truck ramps.
They would not honor my claim.
So, Inspect your car when you get to your destination.

Depending on the car you may want to go enclosed with a hydralic lift instead of ramps. I moved my 911 from Florida to Arizona using enclosed shipping by Exotic Car Transport in Orlando. My Jeep came the same route in an open carrier and an old Buick leaked trans and engine oil down on it for 2000 miles. Prices sometimes depend on how many times the vehicle will be shifted to another trailer - sort of like a airline trip with many connections versus a direct flight.
Good luck

I just shipped a car from the Bay area to Austin, TX on open carrier, no transport change, for $650 fully insured. Lone Star Auto Transport out of Dallas. They primarily ship for dealerships but will do private parties on referral only. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you their contact info.

Hi,

I bought a 91 C2 in Ca. and had to have it shipped to Ma. I bought it on E-Bay and they recommended DAT, I think. After calling them and calling "Intercity" I went with Intercity. Dat not only lied to me on the phone putting down Intercity but also was more expensive. Intercity was courtious, gave me the cell number of the driver so I could call whenever I wanted ,and was reasonable. They charged $1175 for enclosed door to door from Ca. to Cape Cod, Ma.
